According to the facts of the case, Irish purchased a number of items, including a can of corned beef, two boxes of macaroni and cheese and two glasses of ginger wine, using a counterfeited EC$50 bank note (serial number-EO66163A).\u00a0 The total sum for the items purchased was $19.95 and Irish collected $30.05 change from the store owner.<\/p>\n
The 31-year old father of two pleaded for a fine instead of jail-time, suggesting that he would be better able to pay the fine imposed for this crime and another that he is currently paying due in two weeks. Irish was already out on $8,000 bail for the previous offense which was revoked once he was rearrested.<\/p>\n
He noted that he had taken responsibility for the breach in admitting to the police that he was wrong and pleading guilty,\u00a0 and not wasting the courts\u2019 time.<\/p>\n
While he noted the seriousness of the crime, Magistrate Lewis saw it fit to reinstate the bail agreement on condition that Irish report to the Roseau Police Station everyday between 7AM and 7PM. Failure to do so will result in Irish being taken into custody again.<\/p>\n
