Robinson presented the proposal to the team and the DFA at a press conference where the squad was officially announced yesterday. He said that the prizes are meant to let the men see the task ahead as a job, not merely a game.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to look at sports as a job, not as a game. We play games, we do the job. The job at hand is to win the upcoming match and I point to you the players who will represent Dominica on Friday and ask you, are you up to it? And if you are, here is what I propose: Robinson Enterprises has placed the chips on the table and are waiting with Dominicans worldwide to celebrate the win with you on Friday. We are willing to donate $5,000 to the winning Dominica team. Also we will give for every goal scored $,1000 to the scorer of the goal.”<\/p>\n
Robinson has also contacted the proprietor of Ruben\u2019s Bakery who has pledged to match his generous offer.<\/p>\n
Robinson continued, \u201cRubens Bakery, who we\u2019ve just contacted, has agreed to match what I have just proposed. I hope that these incentives will stimulate your feet to ensure that we leave the stadium in a very happy mood on Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n
President of the DFA Patrick John has himself pledged a donation of $1,000 in an attempt to spur the team on towards a win in the upcoming match.<\/p>\n
John said, \u201cMr Robinson and Ruben\u2019s Bakery have done something that few Dominicans would have dared to do. Many would have waited for you to win and then come in. These two enterprises have done something new in the history of our football. We get sponsors for leagues, but the national team, no one wants to put their money. I am not a rich man, but I have got an incentive to help and I will put $1000 down [myself]. Your strength lies in your commitment to make the people of Dominica proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Dominican Team will face Panama at the Windsor Park Stadium on Friday at 6PM in another of their World Cup Qualifiers.
