Darroux<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Government of Dominica and the Government of India have signed on to a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Information and Communication Technology.<\/p>\n

The MOU was signed this afternoon between the High Commissioner of India and the Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information and Communication Technology, Kelver Darroux.<\/p>\n

According to Darroux, the agreement is a major step for the Government and people of Dominica in the Information Technology sector and he hopes that the youth will capitalize on the opportunity.<\/p>\n

Darroux stated, \u201cThe Center will serve multiple purposes and one of the main functions will be to provide specialized training in Information Technology for our young people.\u00a0 And this is a major step as the Government has realized that the Information Technology sector is very diverse and dynamic and we will need to take full advantage of the opportunities provided therein.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThe Government of India will provide free trainers within a two year period and they will also provide all the equipment that will be required for the establishment of that Center. The Government of Dominica will provide the facility structure as well as the furniture for that building and any administrative staff that will be required for the facilitation of the IT Center.\u201d<\/p>\n

He mentioned that a property in Bath Estate that was previously used as a Ministry of Education storeroom has been earmarked for refurbishment and will be used for the establishment of the Center.<\/p>\n

The Center will also partner with the Dominica State College to identify specific areas where that training is necessary and Darroux said that the hope is that young people trained at the Center can become entrepreneurs, with those skills being in such demand.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the training we are looking forward to these young people becoming young entrepreneurs, operating their own businesses and employing other young people. We hope that the persons who will be trained there, the skills that they learn will be in high demand because we know that sector provides tremendous opportunity. So we are hoping that our young people in particular will benefit from this initiative,\u201d affirmed Darroux<\/p>\n
