Dominica’s Attorney General Levi Peter has been called on to review the Standing Orders of the House of Assembly in order to decide whether the Opposition can legally carry on with its boycotts of parliament.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, in his apparent disapproval of yet another walk-out staged by the United Workers Party (UWP) parliamentarians from the House on Tuesday morning, charged the AG with the responsibility of reviewing the related laws.<\/p>\n

The UWP have cited fraudulent 2009 general elections as the reason for the boycott which began in January 2010.<\/p>\n

“I am not sure how long the parliament can allow something like that to continue and I believe that it is important that we charge the Attorney General, Madam Speaker, to review the standing orders in respect to that. These are substantive bills before the House, Madam Speaker, substantive bills,” Skerrit told parliament this morning.<\/p>\n

“Our own domestic, regional, international commitments to fighting terrorism to fight money laundering, Madam Speaker, these are substantive matters that every member of the house should be here to shout and to say ‘yes I support it.’ But instead Madam Speaker, they say that they do not want any anti-money laundering law in Dominica, they’re not interested in any anti-terrorism financing law in Dominica,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added,”We have a $62-million supplementary appropriation Madam speaker, projects which touch the core of the people of Dominica, the core of the economy, the core of the infrastructural development of this country Madam Speaker.
