Letang of Pichelin who was ordered on Thursday to pay James $45,000 said he would prefer serve jail time \u201cthan to give Edison James a penny from my hard working earnings\u201d.<\/p>\n
High Court Judge Cheryll Mathurin, handed down the decision, also ordering that Letang pays court costs of more than EC$4,000 to James.<\/p>\n
However Letang, speaking on Kairi FM\u2019s Heng program, said he is not satisfied with the verdict.<\/p>\n
“Mr. Edison James and the judge, I want to tell you all something. I want the judge to issue and arrest to send me to the jail. Mr. James can never get a penny from me. I do not know anything about James and what he did. I don\u2019t want anybody to go and collect any money to for them to give me. I want to go to jail instead because he will never get a dollar from me,\u201d he told the talk show.<\/p>\n
According to the facts of the matter, earlier this year Judges of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) dismissed an appeal by Letang against the High Court\u2019s original decision.<\/p>\n
James sued Letang for libel after he alleged that Letang made statements which were defamatory and which were motivated by \u201cmalice\u201d .<\/p>\n
Letang is alleged to have accused James of building a $4-million hotel in Barbados.<\/p>\n
