Despite the many allegations launched by anti-government forces within the last few months, Deputy Political Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Ambrose George has said that there has been an increase in support for the party in 2011.<\/p>\n

A major achievement for the DLP for the year, according to him, is the \u201cuninterrupted and committed\u201d support which the party continues to receive from Dominicans here and abroad.<\/p>\n

George, who spoke on Kairi FM\u2019s Heng program this week, said that interaction with persons on the ground can prove this notion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe again continue to be probably the most structured organized political party in Dominica with none to compare and then that in itself has helped us to maintain our position as a party and to continue along with the government to deliver on the many promises that we have made to the people of Dominica,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cSo in 2011, definitely, we continued to see the overwhelming support of the people coming out of the 2009 general elections. I think if one should take a poll at this point in time we realize that certainly that support has increased. As to the numbers, we can\u2019t really speak to that at this point in time but certainly based on the response if you go around the community, you go around the constituencies\u2026 you speak with people on the ground.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Leader of the DLP Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said in October this year that the DLP had actually lost some of its key supporters over the years.<\/p>\n

He told an awards ceremony at the Cabrits National Park that some of the DLP \u201cbrothers\u201d had found themselves entrapped in the ‘language, innuendo and lies’ of those who do not wish his leadership well.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead they proposed a strategy of moving towards with their eyes fixed on the past, rather than learning from it and moving ahead without violating the social democratic principles of the party.
