The Yes We Care program will continue in 2012, despite claims that the Dominica government may be unable to sustain it.<\/p>\n

We cannot abandon our parents and grandparents, we have to care for them in the same way they cared for us, according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.<\/p>\n

The program provides personal care and attention to elderly people, particularly those who are alone, or whose family is unable to provide for them because of poverty, sickness or unemployment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it is not the government\u2019s responsibility to go into somebody\u2019s home and clean their home for them, we as family and friends must recognize that we have a part to play in caring for the elderly,\u201d Skerrit pointed out.<\/p>\n

When government launched Yes We Care in 2009, the Prime Minister described it as a ‘bold undertaking’ at a time when countries were looking to cut spending because of global economic problems.<\/p>\n
