Communities along Dominica\u2019s east coast say they have been doing their bit to help in the fight against the use of illegal substances.<\/p>\n

Schools in the area held an anti-drug march earlier this week, in observance of Drug Awareness Month.<\/p>\n

The march, held in the community of Sinekou in the Kalinago Territory, was done in collaboration with the Youth Officer with responsibility for the eastern district.<\/p>\n

The activity started at the Sinekou Resource Centre and featured students, teachers and staff of the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit displaying anti-drug placards as they marched in support of the anti-drug ideal.<\/p>\n

Those who addressed participants of the march included Garnet Joseph \u2013 Carib Chief, Joseph Brodwill- Peace Corps Volunteer at the East Dominica Children\u2019s Federation, Corporal Thomas Coipel of the Salybia Police Station and Jacinta Bannis Director of the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit.<\/p>\n

Julia Cyrille of the Atkinson Primary School read a poem highlighting the dangers of drug use.<\/p>\n

Participating schools were the San Sauveur, Castle Bruce, Sinekou, Salybia and Atkinson Primary schools.<\/p>\n
