The country\u2019s tourism minister says an attack on a German couple in Salisbury over the weekend is tantamount to treason.<\/p>\n

48-year-old Thomas Caro and his wife Karen Gouber, 45, were hospitalized after being attacked with stones and robbed of their belongings in Salisbury over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe leading foreign exchange earner in Dominica right now is tourism and if nationals go around attacking the tourist then it speaks badly for the country. In this information age, bad news spreads in minutes and this is an attack on the economy. It is a crime against the state,\u201d Tourism Minister Douglas said.<\/p>\n

He added that such incidents could jeopardize the country\u2019s ability to attract tourists to the island.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese people are also jeopardizing thousands of jobs all around the country. This is not just an attack on two isolated tourists, you are really seriously attacking the economy in hard times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, Dominica\u2019s ability to expand the economy and grow the tourism industry is also placed under pressure by bad publicity.<\/p>\n
