Swinging Stars will be one of the bands to be recognized<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Three Dominican bands and a dance troupe are about to be officially recognized by the US-based South Florida Dominica Diaspora and the Dominica Calypso Association.<\/p>\n

The four are the Swinging Stars, the Midnight Groovers, the WCK band and dance troupe \u2013 the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company.<\/p>\n

The awards, an annual affair, will be presented during Saturday\u2019s Calypso Finals at Carnival City.<\/p>\n

One of the key people behind this, Emil \u201cPa Ben\u201d Serrant, says the four are being recognized not only for the kind of contribution that they have made to Dominican culture and entertainment, but for their longevity as well.<\/p>\n

Swinging Stars for example, is fifty years old and has made and continues to make a sterling contribution in the field of music.<\/p>\n

Pa Ben told Dominica News Online \u201cthe message that we are trying to send is to encourage Dominicans that are in Dominica doing their best to help alleviate and promote and push Dominica and develop Dominica\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many people around doing so many things, and it goes unrecognized.\u00a0 You know we cannot depend on government to recognize people,\u201d he said, pointing out that groups like his have a responsibility to pinpoint deserving persons and honor them.<\/p>\n

Swinging Stars, described as the number one dance band in Dominica, is reported to have released 19 Albums and over 30 singles.<\/p>\n

Midnight Groovers is meanwhile labeled as being \u201cstill the only and oldest Cadence Band in Dominica\u201d.<\/p>\n

Of WCK Pa Ben and his association says: \u201cDubbed the Bouyon Band by fans worldwide, their high-energy shows are legendary in Caribbean entertainment.\u00a0 The band continues to capture the hearts of multiple generations of music lovers not only with Bouyon music, but with a diverse repertoire, both live and at the production level.\u201d<\/p>\n
