Geothermal activity in Dominica<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Two test wells already operational and one more to go, as the Dominica government seeks to quantify the geothermal energy available to the island for tapping into.<\/p>\n

Works Minister Rayburn Blackmoore says while the government has an idea that the resource is there \u201cwe need to ascertain the quality and the quantity of the resource\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the minister the current exploration initiative shows the government\u2019s commitment to diversify Dominica\u2019s energy resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe our greatest hope is in geothermal development,\u201d he told Dominica News Online.<\/p>\n

Blackmoore says the people of Dominica deserve an energy source \u201cthat is cheaper and more sustainable too\u201d.<\/p>\n

Officials working on the project say they expect to give a full status report on the work being done in the near future.<\/p>\n

Last December Dominica launched its geothermal exploration project, with the government describing the initiative as a major step in the process of moving away from use of fossil fuel for energy generation.<\/p>\n
