{"id":58485,"date":"2012-03-20T19:09:55","date_gmt":"2012-03-20T23:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=58485"},"modified":"2012-04-09T23:49:17","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T03:49:17","slug":"two-more-charged-in-kidnapping-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/crime-court-law\/two-more-charged-in-kidnapping-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Two more charged in kidnapping case"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_58486\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58486\" style=\"width: 445px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/kidnapped-accused.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-58486\" title=\"kidnapped accused\" src=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/kidnapped-accused-300x145.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/kidnapped-accused-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/kidnapped-accused-150x72.jpg 150w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/kidnapped-accused.jpg 641w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58486\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Allan (left), Phillip<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two more persons are facing kidnapping charges following an incident on March 10, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The two have been identified as Desmond Phillip and Shirley Allan.<\/p>\n<p>They appeared in the Roseau Magistrate&#8217;s Court on Tuesday where they were charged and remanded.<\/p>\n<p>The two joined Jan Bedminster, Kimon Beaupierre and Dilon Alexander were charged with \u201cunlawfully and forcefully kidnapping\u201d Deon Hakim Alfred and Leon \u201cDopie\u201d Joseph.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph and Alfred were reported missing on March 11th, 2012 by their relatives.<\/p>\n<p>According to the police both men were last seen around 9pm on March 10th, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The incident reportedly took place in Yam Piece.<\/p>\n<p>The whereabouts of the missing men remain unknown.<\/p>\n<p>In court police prosecutor Inspector Claude Weekes strongly objected to bail stating that, \u201cinvestigations into the matter is going and while the matter is bail-able it\u2019s a serious crime in Dominica and elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He told the court that he feared that the accused persons if granted bail would interfere with the ongoing investigations. \u201cBail is not closed to them, firearm is alleged to be involve in the crime and we are also in search of other persons so at this time we are opposed to bail be granted to them,\u201d Weekes stated.<\/p>\n<p>Upon hearing that bail was being objected to, Phillip burst into tears asking the Magistrate to consider that he has a young child. \u201cI have a little boy, I go to the Deliverance Baptiste Church\u2026.I don\u2019t know how I happen to be in that situation, I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time,\u201d Phillip told the court in tears.<\/p>\n<p>In her submission, Gina Dyer Munroe, lawyer for Allan, told the court that her client \u201cwas not a flight risk and has co-operated fully with the police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere can be no evidence linking this 45-year-old mother with this crime. To withhold her liberty is unfair and a travesty of justice, Your Worship could be minded to impose stringent measures in granting bail and further more she is a first time offender,\u201d Dyer-Munroe told the court.<\/p>\n<p>However, Magistrate Candia Carette George said the police needed much more time for their investigations and while she understood the submissions by counsel she was withholding bail and the matter would be reviewed in a few weeks time. She ordered partial submissions by Friday March 23, 2012 and the rest by June 30, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The matter is set for July 30, 2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two more persons are facing kidnapping charges following an incident on March 10, 2012.
