PM Skerrit turns 40<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 2004 he had the distinction of becoming the world\u2019s youngest leader.<\/p>\n

Eight years ago at 32 Roosevelt Skerrit became Dominica\u2019s new prime minister, after the death of former prime minister Pierre Charles.<\/p>\n

For almost a decade now he has been the country\u2019s leader and for many of his followers, can do no wrong.<\/p>\n

His critics accuse him of alleged corruption, dictatorial practices, and being responsible for virtually all the ills of the country including violent crime.<\/p>\n

But Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit appears to have an optimism that it\u2019s difficult to defeat.<\/p>\n

Today June 8 (2012) the man whose \u201cdimples\u201d is a rallying point for both critics and fans, celebrates the BIG FOUR O \u2013 he is forty.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear how PM Skerrit is celebrating today \u2013 attempts to reach him failed.<\/p>\n

However his Public Works Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, told DNO that Roosevelt Skerrit was a \u201cvisionary and brilliant\u201d leader who remains focused despite relentless attacks against him and the government that he leads.<\/p>\n

Education Minister Peter St Jean also sees PM Skerrit as visionary, but adds that he is dynamic and a forward-thinking leader whom he hopes will be in charge for a long time.<\/p>\n

Opposition Leader Hector John of the United Workers Party told DNO he wanted to wish the prime minister \u201call the best\u201d on his birthday.<\/p>\n

However John also called on Prime Minister Skerrit to reflect on his years as head of government and on his \u201cstyle of leadership\u201d.<\/p>\n

The opposition leader said there was much that was wrong with a \u201cDominica at the crossroads\u201d, and that PM Skerrit should reflect on what direction he wants to take Dominica to \u201cright those wrongs\u201d.<\/p>\n

In terms of his personal life Roosevelt Skerrit remains to date a bachelor \u2013 but he is known to have a fiance, and it\u2019s likely that wedding bells will be in the air sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n
