{"id":66079,"date":"2012-06-14T13:42:30","date_gmt":"2012-06-14T17:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=66079"},"modified":"2012-06-14T14:17:55","modified_gmt":"2012-06-14T18:17:55","slug":"police-report-success-in-crime-fighting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/crime-court-law\/police-report-success-in-crime-fighting\/","title":{"rendered":"Police report success in crime fighting"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_66087\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66087\" style=\"width: 223px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-66087\" title=\"carrette2\" src=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/carrette2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/carrette2.jpg 262w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/carrette2-144x150.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66087\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Police Commissioner Carrette<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Dominica police are reporting improvement in the handling of complaints from members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen slight improvement in the successes and response time to complaints,\u201d Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette told reporters while listing what he described as recent successes.<\/p>\n<p>They include the arrests of five suspects in the Muslim store burglary, and two arrests in connection with the shooting death of one man at an entertainment spot at Castle Comfort.<\/p>\n<p>The individuals charged in these cases have already appeared in court.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner Carrette also disclosed that during the period December 2011 to June 2012 the police had been able to recover \u201cseven weapons and 88 rounds of ammunition\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must also state that a number of matters that have not been resolved are robustly being pursued,\u201d he told a news conference called by the commissioner to give an update on police activities.<\/p>\n<p>According to Carrette, the force\u2019s Maritime Unit has enjoyed some recent success at sea, having \u201cresponded to several calls for rescue, including the recent report of an alleged plane crash in the Salibia area which was later proven to be false\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He also spoke of \u201ctremendous successes in maritime operations at sea, having seized three open-keel boats valued at about EC$210,000.00 (as well as) 79 rounds of ammunition, and large sums of money totaling $335,260.00 for the year 2012\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner spoke too, of general police activities during which \u201chundreds of offensive weapons including knives, scissors and batons\u201d were seized.<\/p>\n<p>He gave too, Drug Unit updates, citing initiatives which hauled in\u00a0 43,318 cannabis trees, 787,327 grams of marijuana weed, 5.102 grams of cannabis seeds, 9.5 grams of hashish, 1,119.7 grams of cocaine and five weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to better manage the flow of traffic in the city of Roseau were also highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>And Commissioner Carrette indicated that ongoing training of police officers was a priority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment we have police officers in Barbados, China and the United States of America undergoing training,\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>On the question of police stations the commissioner said that Grandbay police expected to relocate soon to their brand new and modernized facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA new police station costing approximately $3.2 million is nearing completion,\u201d he confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner added that the Marigot Police Station was refurbished at a cost of $260,000.00, and that preparations are ongoing for the construction of new police stations in Calibishie and La Plaine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Dominica police are reporting improvement in the handling of complaints from members of the public. \u201cWe have seen slight improvement in the successes and response time to complaints,\u201d Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette told reporters while listing what he described&#8230;","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":66087,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_cbd_carousel_blocks":"[]","footnotes":""},"categories":[19],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-66079","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-crime-court-law"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
