{"id":67170,"date":"2012-06-29T09:00:51","date_gmt":"2012-06-29T13:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=67170"},"modified":"2012-06-29T09:24:59","modified_gmt":"2012-06-29T13:24:59","slug":"st-lucians-dominican-denied-bail-in-drug-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/crime-court-law\/st-lucians-dominican-denied-bail-in-drug-case\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Lucians, Dominican denied bail in drug case"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_67237\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67237\" style=\"width: 642px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-67237\" title=\"drug suspects\" src=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/drug-suspects-642x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/drug-suspects-642x210.jpg 642w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/drug-suspects-300x98.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/drug-suspects-150x49.jpg 150w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/drug-suspects.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-67237\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From left: St. Lucians Sheldon Joseph, Shawn Willie and Dominican Alick Simon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two St Lucians and a Dominican were denied bail after pleading not guilty to charges of possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to import cannabis into the Commonwealth of Dominica.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Earl Willie and Sheldon Joseph of St Lucia, and Allick Francis Simon of Cottage were caught importing 681,908 grams of marijuana on 25th June, 2012 at Toucarrie.<\/p>\n<p>Simon\u2019s attorney William Riviere made an application to the court for bail of his client.<\/p>\n<p>However the prosecution objected, stating that the matter is still being investigated and other charges may be added.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, police inspector Michael Laudat told the court that Simon might be a flight risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe left the island unlawfully and came in back door,\u201d Laudat said while emphasizing the seriousness of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Kondwani Williams represents the other two defendants in this matter.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Toucarie operation one open keel speedboat was seized by police five nautical miles west of Canefield.<\/p>\n<p>In another drug-related case, Kenny St John of Castle Comfort was fined $2000 for possession of cannabis with intent to supply 611 grams of cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>St John appeared before Magistrate Ossie Lewis along with his girlfriend Staphanie Emmanuel and Marcel Williams who were also charged with the same offence.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel and Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply cannabis to another.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel, who claims to be a mother of two children under the age of three in Guadeloupe, was granted a cash bail in the sum of $5000.<\/p>\n<p>Police inspector Michael Laudat informed the court that the drugs were recovered from the home of Emmaunel on 26th June, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>St John was in the company of three children at the time and told officers who were conducting a search warrant there that he had \u201csome weed there to smoke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Glen Ducreay in his mitigation plea for St John told the court that his client uses the drug for medicinal and spiritual reasons, and had no intent to supply it to anyone.<\/p>\n<p>Ducreay added that St John pleaded guilty to the offence because he was due to travel on Monday with his four children.<\/p>\n<p>Magistrate ordered that the $2,000.00 fine be paid by 31 August \u2013 St John faces 10 weeks in prison if he defaults on that payment.<\/p>\n<p>Both Emmanuel and Williams are scheduled to return to court on 15th November, 2012 for trial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two St Lucians and a Dominican were denied bail after pleading not guilty to charges of possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to import cannabis into the Commonwealth of Dominica.
