\"\"Legislative and collaborative measures are among steps being taken to enhance health and safety in the Dominican workplace.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health says it has included occupational health and safety as a priority in its corporate plan for the next ten years.<\/p>\n

The Environmental Health Department is reported to be working to strengthen its legal regulatory framework to ensure \u201cthe optimal health and safety of all categories of workers in the workplace\u201d.<\/p>\n

The department is also collaborating with other agencies to develop strategies which would guide health and safety at the workplace over the next ten years, according to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr David Johnson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to create awareness on safe work environments among the entire population which will serve as a platform to implement our workers health programme,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The CMO has also disclosed that the Ministry of Health is looking to establish a national occupational health and safety committee.<\/p>\n
