{"id":67608,"date":"2012-07-05T06:45:19","date_gmt":"2012-07-05T10:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=67608"},"modified":"2012-07-05T18:17:42","modified_gmt":"2012-07-05T22:17:42","slug":"about-your-opinion-counts-and-what-did-he-inhale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/features\/commentary\/about-your-opinion-counts-and-what-did-he-inhale\/","title":{"rendered":"DENNIS JOSEPH WEEKLY: About your opinion counts and what did he inhale?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_67106\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67106\" style=\"width: 193px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67106\" title=\"dennis joseph\" src=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/dennis-joseph.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"193\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/dennis-joseph.jpg 193w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/dennis-joseph-99x150.jpg 99w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 193px) 100vw, 193px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-67106\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dennis Joseph<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Your opinion\u00a0 matters most and so I am delighted to read all your truthful\u00a0 responses to my debut DNO June 27th column, and just like the politicians say when they wish to cover up a lie, \u201cLet me clear the air\u201d I am not the obviously learned\u00a0 blogger \u20181979\u2019 as some seem to think.\u00a0 Any response from me will carry my\u00a0 name.<\/p>\n<p>While I expected\u00a0 comments on this website, I did not anticipate a whole ton of them on my private email address which mostly\u00a0\u00a0 were complimentary, some with disagreements and a few disagreeable but all are welcome.\u00a0\u00a0 I have then dedicated an email address to those who wish to comment directly to me \u2013dennisjoseph@gmx.com.<\/p>\n<p>I received emails pleading that the May 29th matter be allowed to fade away, but to those I repeat the opening lines from the Showtime series THE TUDORS about the life of England\u2019s Henry the Eighth, \u201cYou think you know a story but you only know how it ends.\u00a0 To get to the heart of the story you have to go to the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But how the times have changed &#8211; communication is now instant and people can respond as the emails\u00a0 to me show, from the farthest reaches in our world and even beyond.<\/p>\n<p>No, I did not get a letter from the moon but it is clear that mankind can now speak to those living on space stations,\u00a0 today\u00a0 cell phones are a child\u2019s dream toy and a parent\u2019s\u00a0 nightmare, our children know more about computers than we do and something worse- now you can be traced wherever you are on your Blackberry albeit the company is on shaky financial ground these days and\u00a0 may soon be eating blues berry and frog.<\/p>\n<p>It is ever changing high tech\u00a0 that makes it possible to know where our Prime Minister Skerrit went and for the talk show hosts and reporters to be able to gloat,\u00a0 \u201cI know what you did last night.\u201d The latest revelation is about the ALBA declaration apparently agreed at an ALBA meeting and\u00a0 reported in ALBA member newspapers that USAID should be kicked out of its member countries and \u2018voila\u2019 we are one of them according to those papers that agreed to let our \u2018Made in China\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 kicking boots rip into USAID\u2019s bleeper just as was done with Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>No sooner, but not before, this was publicly known the PR squad was out with vehement denials.\u00a0 Everybody \u2018 lied on our poor PM\u2019\u00a0 and even if he signed the agreement, well it was the devil that got involved somehow, somewhere.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The question is are we serious about ALBA or is it a convenient vehicle for cash strapped Waitikubuli\u00a0 to get a little something\u00a0 so we are on the ALBA red\u00a0\u00a0 bus just for that ride?\u00a0\u00a0 After every decision of ALBA our delegation returns home and if they find an irate home crowd the general attitude is, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t me\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \u2018The devil made me do it\u2019 kind of excuse to we the people is more like a Christian testifying before a Sunday congregation with those attending saved souls more interested in the juicy details of the sin rather than the salvation.<\/p>\n<p>As we stumble along more and more of such declarations will come as Chavez continues his war against US influence in the region, so is it that we the people who have been forced into ALBA without a \u201cby your leave\u2019 are just going to have to accept the ignominy of our PM making excuses through his surrogate?
