*** Dominica\u2019s Staycation Promotion***<\/strong><\/p>\n

Discover Dominica Authority promotion of the Staycation 2012 offers is continuing. The most recent promotion was held in Roseau on Saturday. \u00a0 Participating hoteliers and tour operators\u00a0in the Staycation programme were on hand to provide information on their special offers to locals.<\/p>\n

Staycation packages are being offered by Fort Young Hotel; Rejens; Picard Beach Cottages; Portsmouth Beach Hotel Anchorage Hotel, Whale Watch and Dive Center; Comfortel de Champ; Seacliff Cottages; Comfort Cottages; Rosalie Bay Resort; Hibiscus Valley Inn and Rainforest Riding.<\/p>\n

The Staycation programme encourages Dominicans to discover their country and utilize tourism services and products in so doing. The next Staycation promotion event is carded for Saturday August 11, 2012 outside the Prevo Cinemall.<\/p>\n

***Dominica\u2019s World Creole Music Festival to be promoted in Guadeloupe***<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dominica\u2019s World Creole Music Festival will be promoted at fringe events organised for the Festival International du Zouk in Petit Bourg Guadeloupe.\u00a0 Members of the Dominica Guadeloupe Association will assist with promotion at a Beach Party event at Viard Beach in Petit Bourg on July 22.\u00a0 The official launch of the 16th<\/sup> edition of the World Creole Music Festival is carded for July 26, 2012, where the main stage acts will be announced.<\/p>\n

***Winner of the 2011 Caribbean Tourism Organization\u2019s Tourism Youth Congress to be featured on Television Programme***<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Caribbean Junior Minister of Tourism, Dominica\u2019s Kitwanie Carbon was featured on a television programme Destination Caribbean this week on Thursday 18, July.\u00a0 The programme, hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organization was aired at 8 pm on CaribVision. \u00a0The topic for discussion was on Sustainable Tourism, what\u2019s in it for you?\u00a0 Ms. Carbon was questioned on her views of sustainable tourism and its continued development to the benefit of Caribbean people.\u00a0 Ms. Carbon\u00a0won the regional Tourism Youth Congress in 2011 and is expected to chair the next regional Tourism Youth Congress carded for October 10 \u2013 12, 2012 in St. Kitts.<\/p>\n

*** Dominica promoted at Fair in Martinique***<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dominica was recently promoted at agriculture, tourism and craft fair held in the town of Vauclin in Martinique.\u00a0 The event took place on July 14 and attracted numerous visitors given that that day as a public holiday. \u00a0Information about what to do in Dominica, investment in the island and display of local manufactured goods generated much interest in the destination.\u00a0 Mr. Philippe Cordinier of Caribbean Unity represented Dominica at the event.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

***Fifty Guadeloupeans visit Dominica***<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sixteen students seeking to be social workers in Guadeloupe visited Dominica on a study tour from July 12 \u2013 15.\u00a0 The students met with officials of the Ministry of Social Services and Operation Youth Quake and visited various sites and attractions.\u00a0 Another group of 35 persons from the Contacts Recherche Caraibe CORECCA association visited Dominica during this period.\u00a0 The main objective of the CORECA group is to strengthen ties with neighbouring islands through discovery, meetings, cultural exchanges and solidarity.\u00a0 Members of the group expressed keen interest in learning more about the Kalinago heritage and culture and concluded their stay in Dominica with a visit to the Kalinago Barana Aute.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

***Discover Dominica Authority develops Waitukubuli Trail Challenge***<\/strong><\/p>\n

Given that hiking is an important niche in Dominica\u2019s tourism product, work continues in the development of this area.\u00a0 Recognizing the need to provide hikers with general awareness on safety during hiking on island, the Discover Dominica Authority under its hiking programme recently prepared safety tips for persons wishing to hike in Dominica.\u00a0 In addition, an outline on \u2018how to plan a hike on Dominica\u2019 was also prepared to provide a step by step process on the do\u2019s and dont\u2019s along with contact information for persons wishing to hike the Waitikubuli National Trail and other trails.<\/p>\n

A Waitikubuli Trail Challenge is now being developed by the Discover Dominica Authority to monetize the trail by encouraging visitors to the destination and local residents to hike the trail in its entirety. The proposed challenged would be done at any given time by individuals who would have to purchase a log book and hire a trail guide through a tour operator or the management unit of the WNT. Local residents would have a maximum of two years to complete the trail following the date of their first hike upon signing up and visitors to the destination would have a maximum of five years.<\/p>\n

Upon successful completion of the challenge, each hiker would be recognized on a \u2018Trail of Fame\u2019 webpage on the WNT website.\u00a0 This challenge is seen as an opportunity to get visitors and locals alike involved in hiking activities across the island, and in doing so further promote our hiking niche and the destination on a whole.<\/p>\n
