Dominica\u2019s tourism industry has been dealt a huge blow with news that Dominica will be receiving 37 fewer calls compared to last year, when the season reopens in October.<\/p>\n

One hundred and ninety-eight cruise ships visited Dominica last year.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday chairman of the Discover Dominica Authority, Benoit Badouille confirmed during a radio interview that the already struggling tourism industry would be facing a further blow with a decline in cruise ship calls to the island this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely there will be fewer calls this season than there was previously. You would also be cognizant of the fact that there is a global financial situation and that the various source markets are affected in Europe as well as in north America,” Bardouille said.<\/p>\n

“The ships also have been doing some repositioning, so fewer ships will be coming to the Caribbean this coming season again because of the movement of vessels to locations other than the Caribbean,\u201d he warned<\/p>\n

According to Badouille, Dominica will not be the only island affected, \u201cas a matter of fact the entire region will be affected by fewer calls this season,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Badouille also singled out Princess Cruise Lines as one top cruise ships that will slashing calls to Dominica next season.<\/p>\n

That discouraging news notwithstanding, the DDA chairman remains optimistic that the 2013\/14 tourist will experience a turn-around and result in a better than projected outcome for the tourism industry.<\/p>\n
