A single mother can now breathe a bit more easily because her daughter was one of five new students to receive \u00a0scholarships from First Domestic Insurance Company Ltd (FDIC) annual scholarship grant for 2012.<\/p>\n

Olarnnice T St. Rose’s mother\u00a0has been struggling to cope since her daughter’s\u00a0father died. Now the scholarship is opening new avenues for Olarnnice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really grateful to First Domestic. The amount given to us will go a long way in helping me as a single parent. My daughter’s dad died two weeks before she was born so I have been doing it all alone,\u201d St. Rose’s mother, Janice Roberts, explained.<\/p>\n

The other recipients of scholarships for 2012 are Jeanelle Jno Baptiste, Niema Hector, Nina Moir Coriette and Jervon Frank, son of staff member, Nadia Laville.<\/p>\n

Operations Manager of FDIC, David Fritz, said the scholarships reflect the organization’s commitment to the education of the country as well as its desire to give back to community.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt First Domestic we believe in the value of a sound education to changing ones circumstance. If you can change your circumstance, then you can change your world,\u201d he said. \u201cWe believe in education and we support it fully so this is one aspect of giving back to community.”<\/p>\n

In addition to these five scholarships FDIC will give at least 6 more totaling \u00a011 scholarships in 2012 to applicants the company deems worthy.<\/p>\n

FDIC is promising that each year at least 10 young Dominicans will benefit from scholarships donated by the company.<\/p>\n

Applications are invited from the company’s customer base and scholars are chosen not only for their academic achievements, but for their character and their attitude to work.<\/p>\n

The scholarship grant was established by FDIC management and board to provide financial assistance for the students based on merit and need.<\/p>\n
