Guye, who was employed at O.D. Brisbane and Sons (Brizee\u2019s Mart), pleaded guilty to stealing $1,611.08 worth of items which included a number of alcoholic beverages namely champagne, Alize, whiskey and Red Cap along with chocolate snacks such as M & M\u2019s and Twix, and bubble gum from the company between 1st December 2011 to 31st July, 2012.<\/p>\n
According to the facts presented by prosecutor Valda Powel, members of the police force conducted a search at the home of Kegan Richards, the defendant\u2019s cousin, after the manager of the distribution department of Brizees Mart had reported the matter to the police.<\/p>\n
A search was conducted in Richards’ bedroom where the items were found. Richards was arrested and taken to police headquarters for suspicion of handling stolen goods. Richards then revealed to police that the items belonged to Guye.<\/p>\n
Guye, who was represented by attorney at law Bernadette Lambert, admitted to stealing the items on different occasions and storing them at his cousin\u2019s house. He also informed the police that his cousin was unaware that the items were stolen.<\/p>\n
Lambert, in her plea of mitigation for the defendant, begged the court for leniency stating that he was a young man who made a mistake. She expressed to the court that it was a period of poor judgement on his behalf and stated that she believed that the time he spent in the cell had made him learn his lesson.<\/p>\n
Magistrate Candia George allowed the young man to apologise to his father, who was sitting in the court, and gave him a stern warning about his actions.<\/p>\n
Three empty bottles of Presidente beer, an empty bottle of red cap and an empty box of Skittles were also recovered.<\/p>\n
Guye is to pay the fine by 31st October or spend 4 months in prison.
