{"id":7019,"date":"2010-03-30T05:39:28","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T11:39:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/?p=7019"},"modified":"2010-03-30T05:39:28","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T11:39:28","slug":"an-observers-analysis-of-magistrate-behanzins-special-qualities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/features\/letters-to-the-editor\/an-observers-analysis-of-magistrate-behanzins-special-qualities\/","title":{"rendered":"An observer&#8217;s analysis of Magistrate Behanzin&#8217;s &#8220;special qualities&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/editorLogo1112.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7020 alignleft\" title=\"editorLogo111\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/editorLogo1112.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a>Dear Editor: <\/strong>Like many, I have read to date the press coverage on Tiyani Behanzin\u2019s performance, serving as magistrate of the professional judiciary.\u00a0 Accusations dished out about a personality I know well misrepresent his attitude, his professionalism, his integrity, his sincerity \u2013 as a great, great player human being.<\/p>\n<p>Bothered by the negative press coverage, I recently spent two (2) days in his court while on vancation in Dominica, assessing his performance and I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God.<\/p>\n<p>I unearthed special qualities in a man, a fitting tribute to a magistrate \u2013 as follows:<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\nGood character<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A man of personal integrity, respect and trust of others.\u00a0 His respect for confidences &#8211; absence of any matter, which might bring them or the Magistracy into disrepute.\u00a0\u00a0 His willingness to be circumspect in private, working and public life.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Understanding and communication<\/span><\/p>\n<p>His ability to understand documents, identify and comprehend relevant facts, and follow evidence and arguments. His ability to concentrate and to communicate effectively.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Social awareness<\/span><\/p>\n<p>His appreciation and acceptance of the rule of law, understanding of the local communities and society in general. One who demonstrates a critical awareness of and respect for people\u2019s views of their identity\/personality\/experience, including the views and associated feelings of people with a faith commitment.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\nMaturity and sound temperament<\/span><\/p>\n<p>His ability to relate to and work with others.\u00a0 His regard for the views of others and his willingness to consider advice.\u00a0\u00a0 He demonstrates maturity, humanity, courage, firmness, decisiveness, confidence, a sense of fairness and courtesy.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sound judgement<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He has common sense, he is able to think logically, weigh arguments and reach a balanced decision.
