A stern warning to always remain committed to their studies and not get distracted has been issued to nine Dominican students who will be on their way to pursue higher studies in China.<\/p>\n

The warning came from Kelver Darroux, Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, who told the scholars that they should always maintain a high level of discipline.<\/p>\n

Darroux who was addressing a ceremony Friday also told students to get ready to face a culture shock.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina is a beautiful city but you have to remember your mission there. It is to study. There will be distractions, there will be a lot of things who will entice you but you have to remain focused and you have to ensure that at the end of the day you are very productive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He encouraged them to maintain a high level of discipline. \u201cYou are not only representing yourself, you are representing Dominica as well. You have to set your priorities straight. You have to show interest towards your school work,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meantime Education Minister Peter St Jean said government has realized that the main pillar of a country\u2019s development is the education of the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most important element of our human resource capacity lies in our young people. We articulated very early that it is our vision that by 2015 at least one university graduate per household in Dominica. We are well on our way to achieving this goal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China Wang Zonglai told the students to make good use of their time in China.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeep working hard and never give up. Your belief and efforts will get you through all challenges in life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

All nine students received their admission notices from the Acting President Dr. Edward Watty and Chinese Ambassador Wang Zonglai.<\/p>\n

The students are Jessima Barry, Bianca Talbot, Darius Jones, Husa Seaman, Mikhail Elizee, Eldon John, Casius Darroux, Lizra Fabien and Vernelle Nelissa Samuel.<\/p>\n

They leave for China in two weeks.<\/p>\n
