Education Minister Petter St Jean<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Ministry of Education says it is ready for the resumption of the new school year which begins on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Education Minister Petter St Jean told a press conference Tuesday that in government’s quest to ensure that students are back in the classroom, several contractors have been engaged to carry out maintenance repair work throughout the school year.<\/p>\n

He said while most of the schools are 100 percent complete, works will continue throughout the next three to four weeks on those that are not ready.<\/p>\n

According to St Jean, government has planned in such a way that the normal school day will not be affected by the maintenance work.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently we have works ongoing in St Joseph, Campbell, Pichelin and Penville. All secondary schools are ready and from the information that I have, all secondary schools including the North East Comprehensive High School, are in a satisfactory state and worthy to receive the children on Wednesday\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

St Jean said work on the NECS will be undertaken in the late afternoons and evenings.<\/p>\n

He added that government will continue to ensure that all children in Dominica will have the opportunity to participate in early childhood programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe there are too many children who are not covered by some early childhood facility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said government will also seek to establish joint participation and ownership as far as their children\u2019s education is concerned.<\/p>\n
