Samuel was also ordered to pay compensation of $24 to the owner.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution, at about 8:00 am on September 10th, Samuel was working in his garden which borders the property of the complainant.<\/p>\n
The complainant then received information that Samuel was seen on his tree picking coconuts.<\/p>\n
The complainant immediately went to his property in Wallhouse but did not see Samuel. He proceeded to the police station where he made a report.<\/p>\n
Samuel was met at his residence in Kingshill, arrested and brought to the police station. He told officers at the station that he climbed the tree but only took four coconuts which he drank. None of the coconuts were recovered.<\/p>\n
In a plea of mitigation for his client, attorney Peter Alleyne informed the court that the defendant and the complainant have not been on speaking terms for some time. He told Magistrate Candia George that this situation could have been settled out of court and urged her to give his client some time to pay the fine.<\/p>\n
Magistrate George informed the defendant that the minimum penalty for the offence was $2,000 according to legislation and told him that she could not alter the fine but will give him time to pay it.<\/p>\n
Samuel is to pay the compensation of $24 by Friday or face 1 week behind bars and the $2,000 fine by 31 August, 2013.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile bus driver Finley \u201cJah Bless\u201d Defoe of St. Joseph is set to reappear in court April 4th after pleading not guilty to threatening a police officer. Defoe was bailed in the sum of $5,000 and has to report to the Roseau Police station every Monday.<\/p>\n
Dave Trini Alley of Bellevue Chopin is also set to reappear in court on that day for a similar matter. He was also charged with driving vehicle registration number TE 361 without insurance.<\/p>\n
