United Workers Party (UWP) Leader Edison James says his party will fight until the end and go to court to seek redress as the brouhaha continues to mount over the election of Eliud Williams as president of Dominica.<\/p>\n

He has also called on the OECS and CARICOM to intervene in the matter.<\/p>\n

Williams was elected by 21 votes in Parliament (opposition absent) and will be sworn in by Justice Brian Cottle at Parliament later today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am waiting on the Chief Justice and or her nominee to see what happens since they will be the person to swear in the next president,” James said at a protest meeting on High Street on Monday.<\/p>\n

James continued, \u201cAnd we are saying to you that we should continue to stand up and there is a suggestion that we should be back here this afternoon when the swearing ceremony will be taking place. People have asked me where we go from there … we will do things within the ambits of the law. So I have discussed with our lawyer and the next step is to seek a declaration stating that the constitution has been breached.”<\/p>\n

According to James there was \u201cThe Constitutional ( kool wosh)\u201d stone throwing brigade in 1979, which he said people want to revitalize. \u201cWe will do all we can but you the people have the power. I am calling on the OECS to intervene, I have written to them and I have been ignored. I am calling on the OECS and CARICOM to intervene before it is too late. We will make sufficient moves until our demands are met,\u201d James remarked.<\/p>\n

Meantime there were some minor clashes between police and protesters during the protest on Monday but no one was injured and no arrest made.<\/p>\n
