Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has commended the efforts of the Chinese government towards improving China\/Taiwan relations.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a reception to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Skerrit said his administration looks forward to a peaceful reunification and said Dominica stands ready to do whatever it can towards that goal.<\/p>\n

However, the Prime Minister said his administration remains committed to the One China Policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know how difficult it is to build a nation and we are very grateful to the Chinese Government for its continued assistance. Let me say that we have never regretted our decision to recognize the One China Policy and rest assured of our continued support and recognition of the One China Policy,\u201d\u00a0 PM Skerrit said at the reception held at the Chinese Embassy in Morne Daniel on Friday evening.<\/p>\n

PM Skerrit also pointed to what he referred to as the adversity faced China saying that it has resulted in the country becoming stronger and more united.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recognize that this is a major achievement for the people of China having gone through a very turbulent history of invasion. China has shown that in adversity it became a stronger and more united people. We believe that China is a country that we should emulate in respect to unity of purpose and unity of strength,” he noted.<\/p>\n

He said further that, \u201cChina has brought itself today to be a member of the UN Security council with a veto vote and this a major influence which China has brought on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
