KINGSTON, Jamaica, Apr 12, CMC \u2013 West Indies will look to further gauge their progress ahead of the World Twenty20 Championship when they face Canada in a One-Day International here Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The regional squad played unbeaten against Ireland and the Canadians in Twenty20s over the weekend, but will use the longer version of the one-day game to enhance their preparation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an international game and we won the last four we played, so we are expected to build on that,\u201d stand-in captain Darren Sammy said Monday ahead of the clash at Sabina Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are expecting the Canadians to pose some challenge but we are confident that as long as we do the three basics \u2013 batting, bowling and fielding \u2013 right, I don\u2019t see why we should not come out victorious.\u201d<\/p>\n
West Indies will want to place emphasis on getting their batsmen time in the middle, after low-scoring efforts in the weekend T20s.<\/p>\n
In the first game against Canada, they managed just 130 from their allotted 20 overs and could only get 143 for eight against Ireland on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Of note, key batsmen Shiv Chanderpaul (10 & one) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (five and two) were among those out of the runs, and they will be keen to get some against the Canadian bowling.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a good opportunity for the guys who miss out last weekend to get some runs,\u201d Sammy confirmed.<\/p>\n
Canada, who will be led by Ashish Bagai, will also get a chance to beef up their preparation for the World T20 Championship in what should be a good exercise for them.<\/p>\n
