{"id":80159,"date":"2012-11-27T15:45:12","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T19:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/?p=80159"},"modified":"2012-11-28T09:15:08","modified_gmt":"2012-11-28T13:15:08","slug":"public-forum-to-honor-jeff-jo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/entertainment\/public-forum-to-honor-jeff-jo\/","title":{"rendered":"Public forum to honor Jeff Jo"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_50094\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50094\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-50094\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/jeff-joseph4-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/jeff-joseph4-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/jeff-joseph4-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/jeff-joseph4.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50094\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeff Jo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Legendary local musician Jeff Joseph will be remembered on Tuesday evening at an event hosted by\u00a0 Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) in St. Joseph.<\/p>\n<p>The event dubbed \u201cAn Evening to Remember Jeff Jo; on the one year anniversary of his death\u201d will take place at Matthew\u2019s Hall in St. Joseph from 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers say it will recall the lifelong contribution to the music and cultural landscape of Dominica and Creole world by this extraordinary Dominican personality who passed away on November 23rd, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson Osbert Joseph, affectionately known as &#8216;Jeff Jo&#8217; and who was born in St. Joseph in 1953, left a rich legacy through his music and songs and his great humanity.<\/p>\n<p>He was the outstanding lead singer of the musical band Gramacks which he led for many years before embarking on a successful solo career until his untimely death one year ago.<\/p>\n<p>To perpetuate his memory and to examine his outstanding contributions and his impact both on the Dominican music scene and on his home community of St. Joseph, the DDA\/DFC is collaborating with the St. Joseph Village Council and the family of the music legend in St. Joseph to put on this important public forum.<\/p>\n<p>The forum will highlight contributions from three lead speakers and short presentations from other invited guests.<\/p>\n<p>Musicologist and cultural activist Gregory Rabess will \u201cexamine the musical and cultural significance of Jeff Jo\u201d while Dominica\u2019s Lady of Song, Ophelia will speak on \u201cJeff Jo, the musical icon\u201d highlighting his contribution to cadence\u2014lypso and Dominica\u2019s popular music scene.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Attorney and St. Joseph native, Elue Charles will speak on \u201cJeff Jo\u2019s Impact on the St. Joseph community\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There will be remarks from the Chairperson of the St. Joseph Village Council, Mrs. Vina Royer and the Parliamentary Representative for St. Joseph, Kelver Darroux as well as a DFC representative while closing remarks will come from a member of Jeff Jo\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to attend this very important public forum and to express their solidarity with the family, friends and colleagues of Jeff Jo.<\/p>\n<p>The venue will open at 6:00 p.m. featuring Jeff Jo\u2019s music and documented works.
