Parliamentary Representative for the Petit Savanne constituency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, says the year is ending on a good note for the people in his constituency.<\/p>\n

The MP, who has always been very vocal about his dissatisfaction with what he describes as ‘the snail\u2019s pace’ at which his constituency was receiving government assistance, said \u201cthings are looking up\u201d.<\/p>\n

Darroux said 17 residents of Dubique will soon be owners of their land following a Cabinet decision to acquire and resell lots to them at 25 cents a square foot.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the lands in Dubique are private lands over the years as part of the Dubique estate. Government bought a large part of the estate and the land was sub divided for housing and agriculture. So far we have created 17 housing lots and government and Cabinet have decided to resell these lots at 25 cents a square foot. This means that in the next few weeks, 17 Dubique residents will own their lands,\u201d Dr. Darroux said.<\/p>\n

In addition, he said $60,000 has been allocated to Dubique, which he said will address some of the acute housing issues in that community.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince taking up the position as parliamentary representative, some three years ago, I have identified that housing is the most acute need in the Petit Savanne constituency. The money was made available through the Dubique Action for Development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Darroux said the Dubique project is another way that government shows it is about empowering more local groups to manage the affairs of their respective communities,<\/p>\n

\u201cI have sat with the committee and we have identified some the most critical needs. It will not address all the acute issues in Dubique but we are hoping that it will make a positive start. The hope is that we will continue to receive allocations until we are able to eliminate all the housing issues that we have and reduce the plight of the Dubique area,\u201d Dr Darroux said.<\/p>\n
