Rafael Correa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has written to his Ecuadorean and ALBA counterpart, Rafael Correa, congratulating him on winning the presidential election in Ecuador on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Correa won the election with 57 percent of the votes, earning him another four years as president of his country.<\/p>\n

In a letter to Correa, Skerrit said he felt ‘a great sense of joy’ when he learnt that he was victorious at the polls.<\/p>\n

“I therefore wish, on behalf of the Government and People of the Commonwealth of Dominica, on behalf of the Dominica Labour Party and on my own behalf to congratulate you, Vice President Jorge Glass,\u00a0 the Allianza Pais Party, and all Ecuador for this victory which constitutes a clear ratification of the Citizen Revolution that you lead,” the Prime Minister wrote.<\/p>\n

He continued, “Comrade President, all of ALBA, the Caribbean, Latin America and indeed the world celebrates with you tonight for this is a genuine victory that is built on the positive results in the areas of political stability, public infrastructure, access to health and education, and poverty alleviation that your Government has been able to secure with and for the Ecuadorean people.”<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said he looks forward to working with Correa within the ALBA family “as we strive to cement the independence and sovereignty of Latin America and the Caribbean and tackle the sad legacy of inequality that we have inherited within our societies.”<\/p>\n

Correa, a US and European educated economist, first elected in 2006, won the vote in 23 of 24 provinces in Ecuador, demonstrating both his sustained popularity and the fractured opposition, according to media reports.<\/p>\n
