New Venezuelan ambassador to Dominica has said he will foster a deeper relationship between the two nations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI come here in order to deepen the relationship between Dominica and Venezuela,” Hayden Owanda Pirela Sanchez said when he presented his credential to the President of Dominica, Eluid Williams, on Monday.<\/p>\n

He is replacing former ambassador Carmen Martinez de Grijalva who ended a 12-year stint as Venezuelan ambassador here recently.<\/p>\n

Sanchez said his country will respect the sovereignty of the people of Dominica while at the same time seeking the integration of the people. “Our Venezuelan Constitution said …Venezuela will promote the integration of \u00a0Latin America and the Caribbean,” he said.<\/p>\n

In welcoming the new ambassador, President Williams said he has no doubt the bonds of friendship between the two states will be strengthened. \u201cI have no doubt that you will work to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation which already exists between our two countries,\u201d he remarked. \u201cDominica has over the years benefited significantly from assistance offered by your government through several cooperation agreements and we continue to benefit through the Petro Caribe initiative and in our membership of the ALBA.”<\/p>\n

He said Dominica’s relationship with Venezuela remains a high priority in the island’s foreign policy. \u201cYou would be pleased to know that Venezuela continues to be a major source of development assistance for the Commonwealth of Dominica and therefore relations with your country remain a matter of high priority in Dominica\u2019s foreign policy,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n

The new ambassador also made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.<\/p>\n
