Minister of Water Resource Management, Reginald Austrie, said the loan was made available by the Caribbean Development Bank.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a workshop organised by the DOWASCO in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Colombia dubbed, \u2018Loss control in Dominica\u2019s water supply system”, Austrie said that over the past several years, the demand for water has increased, prompting government to invest millions in infrastructural development, to facilitate the supply of portable water to their population.<\/p>\n
\u201cYet we have observed the availability of fresh water is decreasing at crisis level, that’s why the cost of water infrastructure continues to rise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said further, that over the last two to three years, Government has spent of $67-million dollars in improving of water systems in Dominica.<\/p>\n
According to Austrie, there are several water supply projects that are expected to come on stream soon.<\/p>\n
Meantime, General Manager of DOWASCO Bernard Ettinoff, says there is an increase in demand for water in the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are seeing a reduction in the volume of water worldwide for use. The world has to grapple with climate change which negatively impacts the quantity and quality of water. This means countries must take measures to bring about greater water security for the well being of the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Advisor to the Colombian Presidential Agency for International Cooperation, Eduardo Guierroro, speaking through an interpreter, said a mission is expected to leave Dominica for Colombia to further understudy how water is conserved in Colombia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Some $40-million is expected to be pumped into the Antrim Water Supply Project from a loan acquired by government for that purpose.
