{"id":8958,"date":"2010-05-06T07:16:34","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T13:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/?p=8958"},"modified":"2010-05-06T09:22:58","modified_gmt":"2010-05-06T15:22:58","slug":"what-we-need-in-marigot-is-representation-senator-baptiste-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicanewsonline.com\/news\/homepage\/news\/politics\/what-we-need-in-marigot-is-representation-senator-baptiste-says\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;What we need in Marigot is representation&#8221; &#8211; Senator Baptiste says"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_8959\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8959\" style=\"width: 193px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/DB.jpg\">f <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8959\" title=\"DB\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/DB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"193\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8959\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Baptiste<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Government Senator Dayton Baptiste of the Dominica Labour Party said he is ready for a by-election in the Marigot constituency.<\/p>\n<p>His comments came on the heels of a move by the Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd Knights, declaring that seat vacant, following a decision by elected member of that constituency Edison James of the United Workers Party (UWP) to boycott Parliament three consecutive times.<\/p>\n<p>House of Assembly regulations stipulate that parliamentarians who miss three consecutive sessions without requesting leave or an excuse from the Speaker will stand a chance to lose their seats.<\/p>\n<p>Baptiste in an interview following the announcement expressed his confidence that the people of Marigot will elect him, should a by-election be called.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am prepared; very prepared at that because of my ability. What we need in Marigot is representation and I am waiting to represent my people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Baptiste said while there were some issues regarding his representation the people have now decided to move forward with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings are pretty good on the ground and we are hoping that things will get better everyday. Now is the right time.
