\n(I couldn’t pray, so I confessed, then I begged!)<\/p>\n
\u2018Hail Mary, mother of God\u2019
\nSeemed so fabricated
\n\u2018Our father, who art in heaven\u2019
\nSeemed so orchestrated.<\/p>\n
So I poured out my soul
\nIn an honest conversation
\nTo the God of our ancestors
\nTrying my best to keep it \u2013 real:<\/p>\n
Almighty Father
\nCreator of all
\nWhich is seen and unseen
\nYou, who protected my people
\nThrough the middle passage
\nWatched over us
\nAs we paid restitution for
\nA forgotten sin
\nFor which we must have been cursed,<\/p>\n
We as a people, now bow before you
\nHumbled
\nStripped of our backbone
\nA joke amongst humanity
\nBegging for everything, including
\nOur own human rights.<\/p>\n
Lord God
\nWe surrender
\nFor, we have paid with
\nBlood
\nServitude
\nHumiliation
\nSubhuman degradation . . .
\nWe have crawled on all fours
\nEven swing from branches
\nLike strange fruits;<\/p>\n
And through all of that
\nWe have yet to fight back.
\nAre we genetically castrated?
\nIs this the reason
\nSome of our women disrespect us
\nSeeking love from the oppressors;
\nDo they find us weak
\nMeek
\nOr cowardly?
\nOh powerful God<\/p>\n
Oh powerful God
\nWhy are our children, glorifying
\nOur slave taunt as a badge of honor –
\nLove being niggers
\nUseless
\nWorthless
\nTrash?<\/p>\n
And one more thing
\nAlmighty Father,
\nWhy do our sons
\nShow off their behinds
\nLike sexual teasers
\nOr like females seeking anal penetration
\nGlorifying prison yard sexuality
\nMore degradation
\nSelf- imposed negativity
\nIn a vicious cycle with no end.<\/p>\n
While, on the other hand,
\nWhy do so many of our daughters
\nLive like penis-less men
\nExhibiting more strength than our sons
\nPulling females and raising families?<\/p>\n
Lord God – if these things offend you
\nLet the pagans amongst us pay
\nBut please accept the blood
\nSweat, and tears of our ancestors
\nAs payment in full; and
\nPlease liberate us as a people
\nFrom this mental slavery
