Lennox Linton has been recommended to replace Edison James as MP for Marigot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The United Workers Party (UWP) has said it will be shedding some more light on the pending change in the leadership of the party at a public meeting in the village of Point Michel tonight.<\/p>\n

Outgoing UWP political leader, Edison James announced at a press conference earlier this week, that he will not be seeking re-election as MP for the Marigot Constituency, neither will he be seeking re-election as Political Leader of the UWP, at its next delegates Conference.<\/p>\n

James also announced that the Marigot Constituency has recommended to the Executive Management Committee of the Party that Dominican and Caribbean Media professional, Lennox Linton, replace him as the Candidate for the Marigot Constituency. According to the party’s constitution, the Management Committee gives final approval to the selection of Candidates.<\/p>\n

The Marigot Constituency has also announced its intention to nominate Lennox Linton to be considered to succeed James as political leader of the UWP.<\/p>\n

However, a release from the UWP states that While it is expected that the Management Committee will approve Linton’s candidacy, “the Constitution of the UWP provides that any Constituency can nominate a candidate for the leadership position, and other names including\u00a0 Hon.Hector John, former Senator and lecturer at the Dominica State College, Claudius Sanford, Sen. Ronnie Isidore from the Mahaut Constituency and Economist Thompson Fontaine, who presently resides overseas, but has expressed strong interest in contesting the Grand Fond seat, are already being touted by party supporters and members of the media, as possible candidates for the UWP Leadership.”<\/p>\n

The release adds that “although the final selection of the new political leader for the UWP, will not happen before the party\u2019s delegates conference\u00a0 carded for sometime between now and\u00a0 November 2013, Dominicans of all works of life are invited to attend the Point Michel Public meeting tonight, where Hon. Edison James and other speakers are expected to shed further light on the UWP leadership choices.”<\/p>\n
