My patient said so. Is he some kind of nutrition expert? Not by a long stretch. It’s all homegrown wisdom. Yet, what he says meshes amazingly with Nobel Prize winning scientists conclusion on longevity. This is probably my shortest article. No way I want to dilute the power and humour of what you are about to hear – in his own words.
Modest to a fault, he insists that I do not use his name or picture. He proclaims the same passionate reason returnees and ex-pats give for choosing to live in Dominica. So whether you are shapely or sickly, meg, gwo or somewhere in between, you will definitely get something out of this article.
I remember him well back in the days when I was a ti bwye living in Boyd’s Avenue at the time. Along with friends and neighbours like Phillip Timothy (May 29 patriot) we would watch these big fellahs compete in robust football tournaments at the old Windsor Park. What a privilege to be in a position to now render professional services to a childhood hero!
Make special note of this gentleman’s thoughts on impotence, walking, preparing you own food. Herein is the secret revealed as to reversing today’s epidemic of strokes, kidney failure and diabetic amputations etc. And how about his opinion that people in the French islands envy our better access to fruits and veggies? You will find this interview loaded with a true treasure trove of wholesome ideas.
A church asked me to speak on prostate cancer at an open-air service in Kingshill on Saturday. Apart from emphasizing early detection (PSA & Digital Rectal Exam), the good news is that when it comes to actual prevention, faith and science speak with one voice on the matter.
It’s all here, in this cutting edge article inspired by a phenomenal female scientist: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3466610/How-live-longer-Based-Nobel-Prize-winning-discovery-ultimate-guide-eat-beat-heart-disease-strokes-cancer-Alzheimer-s.html
Compare the interview with what we now know about longevity, including chromosome telomeres. Dominica indeed may very well be the healthiest place to live. If not, what would it take? Despite this clever brother’s breakthrough in personal wellness; despite the overwhelming scientific evidence, most people will just continue going along, merrily eating as they always have. Yet I’m confident and thrilled about this one thing. Some, maybe even you, will take that leap of faith – to make that sparkling difference in your health!

Doc, tell Dominicans NOT to eat McDonalds and KFC chips if they value their lives. Their chips are full of the most toxic materials guaranteed to give anyone cancer big time.
Don’t his the dislike button before reading this: http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2016/05/you-will-never-eat-mcdonalds-french-fries-again-after-watching-this-video-3349257.html

Now just make the prices more affordable so my family and I can eat these fresh foods all day, everyday. One hand of plantains costs anywhere from $5-$6. How about lettuce and other greens that are ridiculously priced and which vary from vendor to vendor? The market lacks quality and price control. It is not enough to tell people to eat well and support local – fix the broken system and we will be attracted and convinced. OR like myself, we can just plant in our backyards or in pots (or empty ice cream or other food stuff containers) and enjoy fresh produce at a much better price.
The reason why people get sick is that most of us don’t want to eat natural anymore.
We age well when we eat local. If every Dominican eat one local meal a day then we will cut our food import bill by half. Also we will avoid all the harmful chemicals in imported foods.
Thanks for educating our people Dr Christian. You are blessing to your country.
Doc, whereas everything on display may appear to be health to eat, we must not forget apart from the chives, and green leafs and cabbage on display the ripe produce such a on display are all bad for people who live with diabetes; all of the yellow produce seen here are all sugar including the Carrots.
The pumpkin also contains lots of starch, which breaks down into carbohydrates, and soon after becomes glucose.
Apart from the cabbage, chives, and the green leaf’s, and the small green vegetable to the left of the pumpkin one when sits in front of theirs computer, even the green bananas contains starch and should be eaten in less than moderate amount.
All that healthy looking food to me is very good for healthy people who are not hyperglycemic (diabetics)!
that too is what you were taught ; the carrots and yellow food group has its benefits as well . they serve some good meals ; nothing is to be abused even life it’s self
Excellent point! Just because its natural doesn’t mean all of it is appropriate for diabetics
But diabetics more than anybody else should make the effort to eat natural foods. They benefit the most and can spare themselves the ravages of the disease. Try it. Then maybe the doc might interview you!
Dr Christian, what beautiful teeth you have and a glowing and open smile! Have you been indulging in the fresh food of the land?
Dr Sam
What beautiful teeth you have! Your teeth illuminate your face. You appear to be a very happy and positive person, do the fresh food contribute to your glowing smile?
Dr. Sam, I like your approach of promoting all that is good about Dominica while pointing out the areas where we can do better. U big-up other people’s achievement when u could be busy touting your own successes in the field of nutrition.
We need more people like u with a balanced approach. Continue bringing Dominicans together rather than tearing them apart.
So, how do you explain the anecdotally high incidence of cancer and other non-comminicable diseases in Dominica? I cannot put on rose colored glasses!
You didn’t listen to the interview man. When people devour processed foods like in the French Islands, cancer is rampant. Anywhere in the world people eat natural, cancer is very very low. Only a few churches emphasize nutrition. Instead. Many spend time time and energy passively praying for the sick and expecting miraculous healing when we continue to eat junk.
Fine but when you get really ill. What do you do? You have to go off island???
So true. Dominica can invest in becoming a true wellness destination. Cuba is about to reap a bundle from medical tourism. We need a different mindset.
Good thing I’m already half way there with a change of diet and healthy living….and still doing research to learn more…
This is an amazing picture, early in the morning when vendors expose their fresh foods on the market ,this is a smell that i highly appreciate..keep it up,,,
