Magnificent Dominica

I accompanied Mr. Luke Gillian to Dominica, with my wife Melinda, to watch the 3rd and final (Digicel) Test of the series.

There were 24 of us all together and I can guarantee that my sentiments are shared by my fellow travellers.

Words fail me when I read that there is a level of negativity relating to one of the best destinations that Melinda and I have ever travelled to. Between us we have been to over 120 countries on the planet and for us, Dominica would be in our top five to date.

We are still scratching our heads that such a magnificent country exists in this day and age.

We are still working on getting to the rest of the world but we both feel that we will be hard pressed to find a more complete destination.

The people we met were extremely friendly and courteous, the selection and quality of food whether it be from the various restaurants that we dined in or the food stalls that we found at every turn in the streets of Roseau was in every instance fantastic.

We will return to your very special country, whether there is a Test match there or not, we had that great a time. To all of the people we met in Dominica, our heartfelt thanks.

We will see you again.

Warmest regards

John J. Holt

OMG…I got goosebumps while reading this. I really hope we work together to keep our country as beautiful and blessed as it is. As always, there will be incidents/accidents as we are not immuned, however; sentiments as these should definitely propel us to keep our country the ‘Nature Isle’ that it is. God bless Dominica.

It always takes foreigners to tell us how beautiful our country is, yet we who reside there sometimes show no appreciation for it. Thank you so much John and the rest of your crew for appreciating what we already know is a beautiful, breathtaking piece of God’s creation. Do come again and bring lots more people.Maybe the next time you visit you can go around and visit all the wonderful site in Dominica. Thank you again.

Ellen Paul you had to make this nasty, pick your head up from the sand. So because our island is beautiful and lovely the people who live there should not talk about issues that affect them ? IGNORANCE in all its forms should be a crime. Mr. Holt we are indeed happy that you enjoyed this beautiful land of ours it is a magnificent place and we are grateful for your kind words.

    • Ellen Evaline Paul
      May 3, 2012

My comment was not intended to be nasty. If it came across like this i’m sorry. I’m all for speaking out. I do call the radio talk show and i do comment on social websites and i do voice my opinion and stand against anything that is not right. My head is out of the sand and i don’t compromise even when it’s my employer who is in the wrong. This comment was a motivation for all to not just highlight the bad but also the good. I’m looking at having an even scale.

what some sweet words for our people and country i wish all who visit could say the same get a group back the festival in October November thank you very much

    • Tiger
      May 3, 2012

Everybody’s experience will not be the same, so why would you want them to say the same thing. A vacation is not only about the landscape, it also involves how you are treated by the people.

Do you think the tourists who were attacked can have the same feelings about Dominica?

Keep an open mind, some people who praise us, others will feel the opposite way. We have to be mature enough to deal with both points of view.

      • ja gwatas
        May 3, 2012

@ tiger..turn table didn’t SAY that all SHOULD say the same but WISHED that all COULD say the same. English my brother. It’s obvious the he/she hopes that everyone could have a pleasant experience.

      • Tiger
        May 3, 2012

        @ja gwatas
Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. The bottom line is, everyone’s experience is different. We are not a perfect country so to expect everyone to write the same thing is ridiculous.

My point is simply this, we need to also hear the negative so that we can improve on the things that need improving. If you only want to hear good things about yourself, you are either have some serious self-esteem issues, are you are delusional. C’est tout.

    John,

It makes me feel sooooo good that you have such appreciation for my lovely country. I have actually tried on many occassions to look at Dominica in the eyes of a tourist…. and believe me I feel the same way that you do. Dominica is a gem beyond compare. I just recently drove from the hills of laudat, and I was in awe!!! the majestic mountains with some mist here and there, the sun peeping through….oooooh…it is indeed beautiful and I LOVE IT. I am Dominican – and I feel proud. We welcome you back anytime.

Thank you Mr Holt for your appreciation of our beautiful island… we welcome you and your companions again and again and again! For those who thrive on criticism and negativism, Mr Holt chose to look at the positives that far outweigh the negatives. Had Mr Holt’s observations been other than what it is or some salacious piece was published, there would not be space enough for the commentaries. Folks, let us appreciate what is good around us and seek to correct in a positive way the things that offend.
