Some of you people have too many negative comments, when the government is trying to improve the country. PLEASE REMEMBER ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY. Dominica is a progress country and things are happening, please open your eyes and you will see all the good things. What you all should say is THANK YOU for putting Dominica back on the map. WELL DONE TO THE GOVERNMENT OF DOMINICA.

  2. Why
    May 11, 2014

It may not have been the first priority and there is a cost inolved for Dominica to pay, but it is a real beautiful building for all to enjoy for generations to come. It is Dominica’s building, not the PM’s. After 14 years the government had to show a legacy. It is a real landmark. Just hope that the Chinese do not take it for non payment. However, we have to get the hospital up to standard next. It is just like a big clinic. Thank you very much.

Dominica, you are positioning yourself to supersede all islands in the OECS and lead.

I am also impress with your Criminal Code and how serious you are with the Enforcement of your Immigration Laws.

You are doing alot of things Right that those we Elect in St. Lucia are doing wrong, or simply DO NOT CARE ABOUT.

@ April 17, 20141, ………..I do not have to look at the dictionary to recognize a visionary leader as one with foresight and imagination to view future development with wisdom.
Just look at the airport with night landing. This airport is more than 50 years old and Skeritt is only 40.
Look at the State college and tell me that it is not built on someone with eyes on the future, to name two.,
Maybe you should educate yourself on what visionary means. You should stop using the dictionary to call people nasty names. If you do not agree with me show me where I am wrong, name calling is not sustainable to the dissemination of information. There are a lot of names I can call you in return , but I am above that. I have left the ghetto long time ago. You and the plantation masters that you support cannot make me return with your double talk and lies. And all kinds of gate.

You know what would evoke pride going to a hospital and feeling like im actually going to be taken care of….or at least that they have the equipment and medication to take care of me…….SAD SAD Dominicans…supporting infrastructure above their own health….

      Thanks for your rational comments.

How very sad that our fellow Dominicans are impressed by this building, when the condition of our main hospital is continuing to deteriorate.

The maintenance of the hospital should have taken priority over this building. I assume that dominica”s health care is of little consequence as the ministers’ their friends and families can afford to travel overseas for medical care!

The open sewers and the unbearable stench emanating from the drains in Roseau should also have taken precedence over this building.

How sad that the development of Dominica is measured by a building!

It not only this beautiful building it is also the reduction in unemployment and poverty, the yes we care program, the improved healthcare and education, the development of our tourism and agricultural sector and many more.

People should stop being so negative about this building because this building will not be utilized just by this ruling party if the opposition win today or tomorrow the building will not shut down .The opposition party will be the ones to utilize this beautiful building in other words this is not a state house just for the labor party it’s for everyone

    April 16, 2014

A people without the knowledge of its history is doomed to fail. A new kind of colonialism has enveloped our Nature Isle.

Govt took loan from China in the millions to build State Palace. Govt awards contract to the Chinese construction firm and workers to build.

No tender allowed from local Dominican construction firms. No opportunity given to locals contractors and construction workers. Money Dominica loaned from China goes right back to China. Social Security suffers. No payments from Chinese workers to DSS.

Dominicans are left unemployed while they have to pay back the loan. and watch the Chinese do work that they could do. Voodoo Economics. No amount of expressed concerns from the people would get Govt. to rethink or budge.

Agriculture, however, the sector which could boost the real development of our country and make us create our own wealth, is left to languish. The standard of living, especially in the rural areas, is going down, down, down. Cost of living rising, rising, rising. Majority of our youth unemployed. But some Dominicans praising the building of a State Palace as a priority development project. Madness!!!!!

Mental enslavement continue to deepen. Kalinago, Bala, Congoree ,our forefathers, your struggles over all those years to set us free from domination and oppression, the new colonialists have aptly forget for their own selfish needs. How sad for our country.

The corrupt system have turned many into Zombies. Many do not care, whether their land of birth and those living in it, are sold to the highest bidder. Massa day ain’t done. How long? Not long. What would be better Tourist attractions than visits to model farms or manufacturing areas or drives to more attractive natural beauty sites?

just when i thought dominicans break the mental chains i come on dno and i see so many are still shackled. this is so glaringly mismanagement of limited resources in a country like dominica where there are so many critical areas that need investment which would elevate the economic plight of the people. instead we see a building looking beautiful no doubt, which in no way will impact the economic nature of dominica in fact it will just contribute to the debt incurred by the government and also in terms of maintenance and utilities. but like the africans of yore a sparkling piece of glass or a mere trinket that dazzles the eyes is sufficient reason to sell their nation into slavery. this building evokes no pride in me simply because it is not representational of Dominican ingenuity or design neither labour, rather it is an ode to the diplomatic prowess of the chinese nation who indeed are like the enterprising soldiers of greece who entered the city of troy in a wooden horse. the soldiers of troy were so amazed by this gift that they let it into the city to their own peril. Dominicans take note. i know everyone wants to support their party and political partisanship is the order of the day but tell me which one of you would buy a 50 inch flat screen when your fridge dat doh even good already still lacking food not even a little cold water na boy. its as simple as that.

        April 17, 2014

@??????????,………The Hon Roosevelt Skerrit is not a terrible leader. He is a visionary. He is only 40 years old but look at his achievements.
He reminds me of the Hon Edward Leblanc who was criticized in the worst way for building the Government HQ. The west coast road was called a “social road” and opposition forces lobbied the British to stop its funding.
These two men share a vision to modernize Dominica and make it a country that we can be proud of. LeBlanc was kicked out for no reason but false accusations and hatred and envy. We will not allow history to repeat itself. We shall not allow the return of the Plantation system. We shall not allow the people of DAASgate, annual rafflegate, and lands gate . Or the people of doubletalk, lies, boycott , false allegation , envy and hatred to ruin our future development.
We must not allow those new uwp team people to squeeze our Treasury dry. Those gately preretirement people have no vision at all.

We need to set our priorities straight. What was more important a STATE HOUSE or a HOSPITAL? Or even some improvements to our current hospitals and Health Care System. Lets get serious about the health and well being of our people. Our people, even our children are dying, because we don’t have equipment and supplies, we don’t have specialists to provide certain treatments that are necessary for survival of the sick in Dominica. There is so much more that can be done, so much room for improvement, but we are not focusing on those things.

How tragic that Dominicans are mesmerised by the aesthetics of that building, when the resources expended on it could have been put to provide greater benefit to the masses.

  32. Educator
    April 16, 2014

Some of you people are so narrow minded. Do you really think progress is measured by how many new or large buildings we construct?

Progress is measured in the number of institution we have to elevate the standard of living of our people – things like a sound democratic and legal process, respect for the rule of law especially by those who are entrusted to govern. These are some of the ways progress is measured.

    • Razor
      April 16, 2014

So, i guess we never had progress den.

    • Do Your Homework
      April 16, 2014

So, according to you, “respect for the law” is to be mostly the responsibility of “those who are entrusted to govern.” Well yes, some things we read from people who are supposed to know better – “Educator[s]” – really have us shaking our heads in disbelief.

Are we so blinded by the desire to score cheap political partisan points? How about promoting the idea that everybody ought to be humbled before the law? That must be the lowest threshold!

But to the issue at discussion. This new state building, because of the economic spin offs during the building phase, and indeed that which will accrue by virtue of its very establishment, serves to inspire and nurture our collective consciousness as a nation as to what characterizes a high-quality product.

Not even its few detractors can deny the building’s majestic appearance. In a land where top quality goods and services seems to be an expletive, it was about time that Dominicans encounter magnificence in their own back yard. Probably now we will aspire to work harder and emulate, in our own lives, and by our own deeds, the very best that we can ever be.

There is something magically inspiring about experiencing the magnificent. Such exposue tends to evoke feelings of making the once unsurmountable now possible. Even Educator will not deny that.

      April 17, 2014

@ Educator,……… I guess progress is not measured by GNP or GDP anymore. Or by replacing the one bedroom shacks at the edge of the plantations with modern buildings with running water. Or by replacing bucket and pit latrines with modern toilets. Maybe we should be still using stones on the bayside or leaves in the bushes instead of toilet paper. And we should be walking without shoes. NO Thanks.
