Mine, Yours, Nature Isle of Splendor
Its unique feminine Contour
Now Bludgeoned
Any man, tricksters, fraudsters, neo-colonialists
Worming their way through her forested legs
She has lost her Natural beauty
Raped by hundreds of men of insincerity
Baffled by their morbid immorality
Her hair all ruffled
Looking helplessly as her constitution is lacerated
Face disfigured
Her mind in turmoil
Naturalness spoilt
Disgraced, rugged being abused by avaricious, unscrupulous men and women
Her riches stolen
Dragged into the abyss of degradation and fear
On a path leading to chaos everywhere
Straits so dire, no more love for neighbour
This country our provider
Of fresh food, water crystal clear
Mountains to admire
A bio-diversity we revere
Protect her, Cherish her, and Embrace our Dominica

Good talent, well written but too pessimistic, yet what message can we eke out to ensure the NATURE ISLAND SUSTAINABILITY in this hostile world environment…..a myriad of interpretations can result from every line of the poem but yet depends on the individual reader~s perception aptly influenced by political, social and religious ideas. Do commend the writer~s imiginative and writing ability………..suggest the author pen one on the **many talkers **who have daily suggestions to fix everything in Dominica and cannot at the least create avenues for self-employment farless to employ others……we all know them ..so no name calling till C/VAL MON AND TUES;;;;;;kEEP ON WRITING SIR…THE PEN IS A POWERFUL MIND-STIMULATOR
i prefer Mr. Challengers poem on the subject.
Though most of your lines are so true, please allow me to disagree with you, ’bout your sith line that states she’s lost her beauty. Remember her beauty is in the eyes of the beholders. She still stands tall with vigor, vibrancy and potential to feed all. If only her sons and daughters would reflect for a moment, show love, respect and regards to her laws, her reputation can be restored and preserved like the hardened cement. As Lougawoo writes, he is angry at the state of his beloved country.
Total rubbish, disguised as poetry!!!
Is that so?
You have a point here! I do not understand why people agree to accept the theme of this poem, that our Dominica is a prostitute. Her people may not be saints, in attitude and conducts, but her natural beauty remains untouched. “Prostituted” is a bit “overstated” here, to my understanding.
I am glad you noticed it too!
Please try to understand the poem? Being prostituted certainly does not mean Dominica is a prostitute. What is your first language? Do you understand POETIC Language? Land of FRESH FOOD, Water crystal clear, bio-diversity to revere speaks of the uniqueness of Dominica and its richness. Is that rubbish? You seem to relish in UNCLEANLINESS, that cleanliness looks like rubbish to you. Bathe in your IGNORANCE.
Poetry and the like of you
You people do not understand what you are objecting to, so why not hold your peace!
If you people are blind to comprehension here is the title of the poem “DOMINICA PROSTITUTED”
This means that you all have made your Dominica into a prostitute–exchanging her beauty and her resources for money.
May I suggest that you people go back and read the words of the poetry and again and to discover all the phrases that has compared Dominica to the like of a prostitute. Here are fews lines:
Any man–worming their way through “her forested legs”; she has “lost her natural beauty”; Hair all rufled; face disfigured–there is lot more. What more do you people need, to understand that that poetry writer has compared your homeland with likes of a prostitute? Foolish!!!!
Face the truth Dominicans. We take too much pleasure in turning a blind eye to reality!
Your comprehension of Poetry is warped.
@ Poetry…
This was the same commentator who was bigging up another piece of poetry on here a few days ago.
Search for it and see the comments, then you’ll understand where the lack of knowledge concerning this poem comes from.
You are right, the overstanding of the literal metaphors has gone over a lot of heads.
More propaganda
Have your say! But search here and there, you will notice that the thumbs up and down show that the majority have the sentiment that I have. And what do you know! The majority opinion stands!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY BELOVED COUNTRY… AIDED AND ABETTED BY OUR OWN GOVERNMENT.
FOR THOSE OF US WHO LIVE HERE AND WHO LOVE THIS PLACE IT IS HEART BREAKING.
DOMINICA IS BEING PROSTITUTED BY THE EVIL DOERS
MAY GOD IN HIS MERCY HELP US.
Do you know what’s “aided and abetted”? or you just write that because it sounds good?
ha ha!!!
ok you got me there
it sounds good
A beautiful and incisive poem by a poet brave enough to face reality.
Many years ago, Sheila Hyndman, a young Virgin Island poet, wrote in a similar mode about her beloved Virgin Gorda. I quote the following excerpt:
They will come
with tools and machines.
They will bring to light your secret places
They will demand you mysteries
They will destroy,
Build up.
They will dilute your treasures,
and rob you of your chastity.
They will adorn you like ancient Jezebel.
I am sorry folks. Although I have to give credit to the author for writing a beautiful poem from the perspective of quality, I cannot agree with all of the sentiments expressed. This bleek and dismal view of my beautiful Dominica makes it sound like an abyss of depression and a place to be avoided at all costs. Although I no longer live there, I am still of the opinion that it is the best country in the world.
If it is the best in the world then why do you live elsewhere?
My friend, don’t expose your ignorance here. Tthere are other nationalities living in Dominica including some from first world countries such as the USA and Britain and loving it. People leave their countries for various reasons and it does not always have to do with the quality of life experienced in their homeland or in the country where they migrate to. In my case, my parents migrated when I was 12yrs old which meant that I started high school in another country and that is where I have basicily made my life. But rest asured that I will be moving back to Dominica as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Dominica IS wonderful. I can’t make you love it, but don’t try to make it sound like I don’t. In fact you sound like you don’t love Dominica. Maybe you should try Haiti instead, you just might love it there.
You said it all . Brilliant. Lets hope more people read this. !
nice…….
Excellent piece… now that is what I call an amazing piece of writing. Full of imagery and metaphors of my beloved Dominica.
Well done!
