Thanks to all who participated in our last installment of Weekend Fun.
The fruit portrayed in the photo is the Mountain Soursop which goes by the scientific name Annona Montana.
It is known locally by a number of names including Karwosol Diab (Devil’s Sweetsop) or Karwosol Zombie (Jumbie Sweetsop).
This tree is used for rootstock, not for eating.
Definitely a soursop not formed and colored like a soursop but definitely one

Annona montana is the scientific name
The whole of Monday has past and you have still not provided the correct name of this fruit. Are you waiting till midnight to tell us the answer? Well this is no FUN for all the 85 persons who responded and who are waiting to see your answer.
This is definitely NOT a soursop, but it is a member of the SOURSOP FAMILY… like custard apple (kachimAN), kachiman-lawim, sugar apple and kachiman-dyab (kowosol kochon, mamen) that grows in the swamp at Cabrits
Jumbie cashima !!!!
That is a soursop.
This is a man made fruit therefore it’s type is “Sin” LOL
Growing up in Mahaut and being often at the Belfast river, we called it jumbie cowosol, and hardly ever eaten although I heard some people did eat it and it makes a good juice.
It’s a mountain soursop aka in my childhood days as korworsol diable. I was always told that it was poisonous. But some people ate it..
Kowosol Dyab! Any Mahaut native would know that!
Looks like it’s not native to Dominica, I have not seen it in all my life. We should ask the elders to see if they know….interesting fruit.
That is a carosol,soursop,or sweetsop.
Oh!how i miss these fruits.
For those of you who are interested, please note that this fruit has the ability to heal breast cancer, that is why it looks like a woman,s breast.God is so wise that he created certain fruits resembling different organs in the human body. Those of you who have access to these fruits, please make use of them. They will prove to be a blessing to your body and not a curse.
Lady, a breast with prickles so? Well, I have never seen that in my life. You must have a very unusual imagination.
I cant remember it. But if it a cancel healing fruit, maybe we need to cultivate it create a major industry from this fruit.
When bringing in these exotic species to the nature Ilse, the importers better ensure they do their due diligence and get all their phytosanitary conditions vetted. Dominica’s agricultural products have enough imported pestilence to risk piling more.
It’s a Koworsol Diab(jumbie sweetsop)A gentleman from mahaut deceased John Parker alias Corea used to blows them down.As youngsters growing up in the Mahaut/Jimmit area we never touched it.We don’t know the scientific name so maybe someone from agriculture/forestry could post it for our enlightment.
Hey Kaka Bouwik, you are surely from Belfast. Couria used to eat that and we used to wonder why he never died because they told us it was poisonous. So there is something he knew that we did not know about.
mango
it looks like a graft from pumcanal and soursop they are family
kowosol zombie i raised up knowing a man by the name of John Parker aka Korea eating that thing it never killed him for sure.He lived a long life too.
It is a sugar apple, none locally as kashima.

You’ve got it! It is the “Annona Montana”.
yea,but they might be looking for a local name
I don’t know if there is any local (patois) name for this variant but it is a member of the same family as our “Couwassol”, “Cachima” and “Pomme Canelle”. Maybe we could call it “Couwassol Morn” ?
Be for the fish ponds on the way to pa dick we call it corewarsol Diab
Does this fruit grow anywhere else other than Mahaut? I know that fruit as Coworsol Diable. We would never touch it, but John Parker used to eat it, though.

That’s a Graviola or Mountain Sour sop…
That is a corewarsol Diab
Open for correction, but i thought the Couwosol Diab was what we call the Noni fruit that everybody was crazy about once upon a time. This makes very interesting reading cant wait for the answer a herbalist like me on the lookout for all natural healing is very anxious to know of its healing properties. Never seen this fruit b4.

I’m with you on that name. At first glance I thought it was a custard apple, but on closer inspection, I noticed that it also looked like a soupsop (but I don’t think it is).
Beach Sugar Apple: – Annona salzmannii

Description: An evergreen tree to 30-45ft, one of the tallest of the Annona’s.
Hardiness: Unknown.
Growing Environment: Unknown.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: The fruits are eaten fresh and given high marks by those who have tasted them
Farmer Boii, you did not have to take the information straight from the website (tradewindsfruit.com) and paste it like that on DNO. Next time change it up a bit in your own words.
Information is necessary so don’t be jealous you didn’t get to post it. Changing it would make it any different because it came from a credible source and not from Farmer Boii.
The Farmer only tried to share the information and feed the brain, not create it.
It could be, but a sour sup not round so, could it be a sugar apple.
Looks like of the Custard Apple Family (Kashima) . But most varieties of Kashima I have seen do have a smooth skin – this fruit has a skin surface to that of Sour Sop (or sweet Sop) family.
I’m really just guessing!!
Sour Sop
a soursop
