A new cruise ship call for Dominica

MV Europa
MV Europa

MV Europa II of the HAPAG/Lloyd Cruises will make its inaugural call to Dominica on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth. To date six (6) Ships have made inaugural calls for the 2014/2015 cruise season.

With a small passenger capacity of 516, the MV Europa II entered service in May 2013.  The low number of passengers coupled with a total of 370 crew members ensures exclusiveness and relaxation for the guests. The Ship’s interior concept follows current design trends and is a successful mixture of casual and stylish ambience with state-of-the-art technology. Life on board sets its own standards: more lifestyle and less cruise rituals contribute towards a more informal atmosphere.

To commemorate the occasion, a Welcome Ceremony to include plaque exchanges will take place aboard the Ship. Government Officials and tourism stakeholders will be present to officially welcome the ships’ captains and crew.

Cruise tourism is a major component of Dominica’s growing tourism sector. During the 2013/2014 cruise season, there were one hundred and eighty-eight (188) calls which translated into 282,404 passengers. Approximately 191 cruise ships are expected to call to Dominica during the 2014/2015 season, bringing 292,210 visitors to the island.

DDA solicits the cooperation of all tourism stakeholders in ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for the cruise visitors.

Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) will continue its effort in promoting Dominica as a desirable cruise destination so as to increase cruise calls to Dominica.

Dominica has become the land of excuses. Lets hear the excuses for this one. At some point, we simply MUST ask ourselves what are we doing wrong!

For the first time, St Kitts hopes to attract more than one million cruise ship passengers during the 2014/2015 season, according to an announcement from the office of the Prime Minister of the independent Caribbean two-island federation, Dr Denzil Douglas.

The statement said the passengers are expected to arrive at St Kitts’ Port Zante, and the expected numbers represent a 31.5 percent increase over the 2013/2014 season and a total growth over the past eight years of more than 500 percent.

What a beautiful ship this is! It makes a stunning picture against a glorious skyline.

Tomorrow, Sunday, December 28, 2014, the MV Europa 11 will make its inaugural call to Dominica at the Cabrits Cruise Berth bringing visitors from afar to appreciate the beauty of the nature island. This is a ceremony I would love to watch as Dominican dignitaries and people welcome the captain, his crew, and their passengers to your shores.

The visit of the MV Europa 11 may well be part of a growth spurt in the tourist industry of Dominica. 292,210 is a significant number of visitors. No doubt many will want to return and stay longer. I expect they will be people of good will who respect the laws and culture of your country. They will take positive reports of the paradise they have seen back to their homeland.

May God give you a successful tourist season as people from my part of the world seek to escape the snow and cold weather for a couple of weeks.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist. Executive Director of Living Hope Ministries.
