An accident in New Town on Saturday morning left a young woman with a bloody nose and caused a huge pile up of traffic.
It happened at about 10:00 am near the Eggleston junction.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear but reports indicate that a bus and a car were involved.
According to an alleged eye witness the bus was traveling in a southerly direction (towards Pointe Michel) when the accident occurred.
The bus ran off the road and into a tree while the front of the car was damaged.
It is reported the young woman was a passenger in the bus.
Fortunately no one else was injured but the accident is further indication of the need for drivers to be careful on the road.
DNO will is seeking information on the accident from the authorities and will publish it as soon as it becomes available.

we dominicans need to stop say wat we want with our mouths, the bus driver was not the cause of the accident the man don’t even drive fast the car was the one not paying attention came out from a garage road fool speed hit the bck of the bus and ran it off the road…i was right there
We need to stop just run our mouth and give on our fellow brothers shows how stupid and low minded we are, grow up people and stop trying too bring down your own country and the people in it….STUPES!!!
Thats not true if u were there the bus loose brakes.. stop tell lies
It is time especially with all these road improvements which we have had and is still ongoing, that the administration implement proper traffic control by the traffic police with proper vehicles and equipment to deter some of these stupid traffic accidents which are mostly a result of a blatant disregard for the traffic laws and principles.
Another thing we should get away from is the term HIGHWAY….if anyone knows what highways are, then the conclusion, we don’t have them here, we can maybe begin to say “main-roads” instead, it may bring some of our drivers down to earth.
Also speed bumps should be placed in all congested communities such as Newtown, Massarce, Mahaut and other such villages in order to reduce the speeds at which vehicles travel through such places, I am sure this will help to bring more responsibility to the road users and thereby reducing injury to innocent road users.
I cannot believe the speed that some drivers go through little villages – how long will it take until something is done about this? I guess nothing will be done until the worst thing happens!
Prevention rather than reaction when it comes to lives is vital!
It is time for the administration to have the police to begin to patrol the roads and be very hard on offenders of the law. We copy rubbish every thing from every where else why not proper systems and regulations too. Let us be responsible.
DAT PLACE chupes I so hate NEWTOWN ITS SO DAMN SCARRY DRUGS SMALL ROADS ARMS AND CRIMINALS THOSE PEOPLE ARE SO BAD !!!!!!
I just want to remind you that New Town is in Dominica and if you are a shame or hate New Town then you hate or ashame of Dominica because all over Dominica is the same, and if you please may i also tell you that there are good people that come from New Town and i am one of them,i allow people from all over Dominica to make their daily bread by employing them, so tell me is new town still bad
something must have gone wrong with the bus itself. Cause i know cyrean, he is not a fast driver. Real sorry about that for all those involved.
to the Admins of dno learn dominica thin is not newtown this is Citronier …. u see ppl sitting by d roadside whle day in newtown, in Citronier u dont see that!!!!!!!
Living close to Fort ney or Fortuné Junction ( as you like) it is in the everyday that could occur such kind of accident. It need to have some thing on the road to slowdown unconscient drivers in the Victoria Street (main road) in north and south part of the ross road.
I have seen the speed at which these bus drivers go on this road. Scary stuff. We have been going into town and a bus pass us and before we
even get to town that same bus making the run back. That to fast.
Papa Met!!!!!! All accidents that happen in D\A so far have a bus involve.
“According to an alleged eye witness…” This one takes the cake, DNO.
the man who was driving was not seeing light man
wat happing there nana
So sorry to hear that, but this was the proverbial”accident waiting to happen”. This stretch of road is not passable for two cars at the same time when vehicles are parked on the road, as they invariabley are. Safety could be greatly approved if the parking of vehicles, say from Anchorage to the Fortune junction were to be banned.
:oops:hm. people in dis country have to b careful
I have been driving for a very long time , in every state in the U.S.A.but when ever i am home on vacation it scared the hell out of me just to watch the way my fellow dominican drive.
If you try to ask them to slow down , they have an answer to each of your questions[ super interlects]some of them have a matchet, or cutlass in there cars, to speed up the road.
negotiation process.
The average Dominican is a MUCH better driver than the average American. Have you seen Americans drive?
are you serious, do you see how they drive in the USA, man let me drive in Dominica every day of the year and more so on a leap year….
The difference is that the drivers in Dominica has no respect for the law and their fellow drivers. They have no restriction as to how fast they can drive. They have no fear of getting a speeding tickets, they can drink while under the influence then boast of how drinking enhance their driving abilities. The drivers do what they want, when they want. They only time the police stop them is when they are checking for registration and license.
DNO correct me if I’m wrong, the first line of the report says “accident on Monday morning”?
Today is Saturday, did that accident occur since Monday?
Thank you anyways, better late than never!!!
Am I reading from the same script that you read? I saw Saturday morning, not Monday morning!
monday morning?why the late report?
that is strange serian,MR must have fallen asleep>
ADMIN: This area is Citronniere. South of the Fortuné junction.
thank u very much sir…i thought i was going crazy
Da get with the program, Not sure what occured, but the way I see these bus drivers driving its like the are carying baggage and not lives. Start ticketing people for speeding, hold them accontable for people lives, its a service they chose to provide, and their for they should respect those who utilizes it. And all the cars that park on the streets in newtown i mean come on, how can it be safe???
The car forced him out of the road he did not run off the road really. The car was trying to turn in the road! Also yes seat-belts for true. But imagine the front passenger of the bus jumping behind. If you saw what happened to his shoe! This would have been his legs if he had a seat-belt on. However, I am still not against seat belts. Just saying it slows you down when you have to bail out quickly.
