UPDATE: Grand Bay man drowns

Franklyn Alfred of Grand Bay is now dead after drowning during a fishing expedition on the Soufriere/Scotts Head coast Sunday.

Bernard Laurent, the younger brother of Alfred said he is still shocked and trying to grapple with what happened.

Laurent said he and Alfred were accompanied by three other individuals at the time.

“We were together fishing a spot. It was five of us that go. Four of us stayed on the main stone fishing while the other guy went on the other side. Then Alfred said he was going on the other side and meet the fella. We stayed there cleaning our fish. Then the other partner came running telling us that something has happened to Alfred,” he said.

According to initial reports, Alfred had complained of feeling sick and while getting assistance to swim out of the sea he was engulfed by a wave.

Laurent said a report was made immediately to the police station in Soufriere and the Marine Unit in Fond Cole was subsequently alerted.

“The coast guard came to check us Soufriere by the bay side and they went in search of him. The coast guard found him,” he said.

Laurent said his brother will be remembered in Grand Bay for his “golden voice and peaceful nature”.

“He was a singer. That’s how people will remember him. It didn’t have an event in Grand Bay that he wasn’t on that stage singing. I love my brother. I will miss him,” he added.

Forty-year-old Alfred was married with two children.

*Note to readers: After confirmation, DNO was informed by family that the dead man’s surname is Alfred and not Laurent.

    @true GRAND BAY:

How can u talk about the man mother like that?
Did u know why he and his wife got separated?
You have a problem with his mother put on ur grown up clothes and face her.
how can say people never told him how good he was at singing, well that statement doesn’t go for me because every time I would see him even though he busy I would stop him just to sing for me Franklyn was a good man, a wonderful person, u are the only one on here talking negative about a dead man and talking about his mother. Does she have something that u want?
It clearly states that u are jealous of the family. STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. @Big-Bannan:

Thanks; I got it, and I hear you lowed and clear.

Time is of the essence it is said; and it should not be wasted on people who’s mentality is actually beneath that of a common peasant.

You know my late father once advised me that I should never put myself in a situation where I have to argue, or debate a fool; he advised me the fool will always win, no matter the circumstances.

The fool he informed me, holds on to his/her opinion that they are smatter than everyone else!

Thus, I’ve come to realize that it is pointless to argue with some of our people.

They are consumed by ignorance, jealousy, and envy, and they will stop at nothing, no matter how much they humiliate themselves in the process of trying to prove a point, although they have already lost both the battle, and the war!

These no-name, and faceless-nobody, seem endeavoring to get me down to their level, however, the chances of succeeding, is actually zero, if anything they shall become so agitated, so restless and frustrated, their efforts, and the hate they entertain in their hearts against me, will sooner cause them some psychological discomfort, which will cause them so much stress, that it is likely; cardiac arrest, or an aneurysm in their brain will be the result.

This is not something I wish to occur, however, bad things usually happen to evil people, whenever we try or attempt to destroy others, we usually destroy ourselves.

    I pity these people!

  25. @Anonymous:

Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque, ( alias) Son, is too proud of my inherited name to make myself a confounded jack…, by writing anything under a fictitious name!

If this persons style of writing is similar to mine, that’s an indication that he/she is a better educated person than the majority of all the low class, lowlife, scum bags of the earth, who would like to build a reputation by criticizing me.

I am a scholastic, and academically educated man, I have nothing to hide, because my arguments are intellectual ones, the problem with the majority of Dominicans is that, as long as someone is different he or she is never accepted!

If my sentiments and comments were loaded with nonsense, then I would be considered one of the bit of mucus among you, and I would be loved.

Well, I prefer to be criticized; I enjoy being an outcast than to be a loved, and popular fool!

You know; there are 1,250 identifiable species of Drosophila:

Of the one thousand two hundred-fifty species of these genus (genera) found throughout the world, I have yet to identify the species in Dominica, which continues to buzz around me. If I could identify this specie of fly’s, perhaps I would be in a position to develop a pesticide which I could utilized in their eradication.

So until, then I refuse to dignify their ignorance, thus allowing them to self destruct, eventually, good shall prevail over evil, in the meantime, I will continue to express my opinion on DNO, as long as they will afford me the privilege to do so.

Meanwhile, if my sentiment mesmerizes the mind, of the less, schooled, the lesser educated; that’s their problem.

There was a time in Dominica, when most people thought that education belongs only to those who’s parent could afford, or based on the complexion of a person, i.e., the lighter the persons complexion, the better chance they had to get a good education.

However, we no longer exists in such era’s and time. For the fool in Wesley, if that’s where you belong, you may still have time to educate your stupid, mind, by buying News Papers, and reading, the contents, and what you do not understand, ask someone who is more knowledgeable than you are to explain what you read to you.

    That works!

When I was a kid, I know of two people who learned to read and write that way, through, News Papers, and by reading the Bible.

I can mention the name of one of the individuals, and though I am tempted to do so, I will not disclosed his name, but, I may say this person by learning to read from the Bible, and News Papers, eventually held two very good positions in Dominica over the years, and if I am not mistaken, at one time he was a member of Parliament, in Dominica.

The other person is now deceased, however, his sons and daughters are all very educated, he produced a medical doctor, and a clergy, stationed here in the United States.

And you idiot from Wesley, don’t even try to figure it out, since its beyond you.

I will end by saying there is nothing wrong with one not getting an education at an early stage in life, nonetheless, we have every opportunity to get an even at a hundred years old, in the modern world we live in these days!

Quote me and say I told you that Earnest Williams former Minister of Education in Antigua, now deceased, did not learn to read and write until he was in his late twenty’s.

    And how did accomplished that?

He was married to a school teacher, who taught him to read and write.

Also a former Prime Minister of Great Britain, did not learn to read, and write until he was twenty-five years old, and I believe his name was Macmillan.

There is no excuse, and everyone who envy’s me, there is nothing you people can do to take away what is in my head, and even if someone cuts my head off; and cut their block head off, and try to attached my head to their long neck, my knowledge will not be attached with it, because once you are dead, your memory is erased!

    Hahahahahahahahahahah!!

And the probability of getting my head unto your body, is absolutely zero, nill, can’t happen, because both of us would die in the process!

@Anonymous: Hey Francisco’s statement was very short. Yours is longer. You seem to know well what Wesley wanted to say. I myself was at a loss? I could not understand what he wanted to say to Francisco who merely (see my previous remarks). Let us make meaningful comments ok and not insult one another. The family of Frankie needs our support not justifying or trying to make our own selfish points or motives. Let us be humble and love another.

@Big-Bannan: Is Big-Bannan the one and only Francisco Etienne Telemaque? Ur writing style and the fact that you taking Wesley remarks so personal seems to indicate u might be the same person.
What Wesley is tryin to say to Francisco is stop writing an entire page to say what most ppl only take a few sentences to write. No one is impressed by the fact that you live in Los Angeles, that ur cousin or ur brother or ur mother or ur Aunty lives in such and such a place, or how u can intricately explain minor details of the laws of ur state, or how Dominica laws or lack of is not comparable to that of the U.S.
We get it, “u smart”, we just don’t need to read a thesis everytime, just state ur point and get out. It’s a simple message board Francisco, DUMB it down a little bit, cause some of us are monkeys tryin to understand u.

Why are people seeking to speak to the dead? Please people we keep making this mistake. He is dead and cannot hear us, so stop this.. Not one message left on this site can be read by him. We live our lives and reluctantly say hi to those we mee. Even thos we see on line like on FACEBOOK.we never greet them,.People hardly greet each other and that is quickly becoming our culture. Every one so self centered. Dont call to find out how each other is doing, but as soon as that someone is dead we write messages on line, call the radio and send parting remarks to them. . Our message should be to those he left behind. To comfort his love ones, his relatives, his friends. .
