Durval Martinez of Child Fund Caribbean makes donation to Gloria Walsh on behalf of Bath Estate

Child Fund Caribbean will donate hygiene, sanitation and entertainment supplies valued at over US$15, 000 to storm hit communities that have been declared disaster areas.

The donation was made at the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) on September 3 by the National Director of Child Fund Caribbean Durval Martinez. It was presented to the Public Relations Officer of the Bath Estate Disaster Committee and Shelter Manager of the Bath Estate team Gloria Walsh who received it on behalf of the people of Bath Estate.

Martinez said Child Fund wants to contribute to the relief effort for some 50 families in Bath Estate and in other areas such Petite Savanne, Good Hope, San Sauveur, Petite Soufriere, Dubique, Campbell, Coulibistrie and Pichelin.

“We hope this will bring benefit to their wellbeing, and the lives of children particularly, to return a little bit normalcy,” he said.

“We have chosen hygiene because that was an area that was somehow forgotten by the other donors and that’s why we found that as important. And also we are including child materials so the children who are being hosted at the shelters could have some recreation activities, some entertainment,” he added.

Additionally, some of their staff will help to take care of the children being hosted at various shelters.

Meanwhile, Walsh thanked ChildFund Caribbean. She mentioned families affected in the Paradise Valley, Elmshall, and the RBC Housing Scheme and added that the Bath Estate Disaster Committee has been assisting persons in those areas.

Child Fund promised to extend their relief and recovery efforts to other parts of the island as time progresses.

Childfund Caribbean is doing an excellent job of caring for the children and families. They need the support of contributors outside of Dominica. Please open your heart to helping them help those in great need as a result of this terrible storm. Many kudos for the work that they do everyday!!!

My son worked for Childfund in Dominca in the Spring of 2014, and we visited while he was there. We fell in love with Dominica and it’s amazing people, and were so impressed with the work that Childfund is doing.
Our hearts are breaking for the pain that this special place is experiencing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you work to survive and rebuild. We are working on ways that we can help from the mountains of Virginia in the US.

I saw ChildFund at the Refuge Centre, providing entertainment for the children. On a full time basis, apparently.

In addition, their Sponsorship scheme is brilliant ! They are an amazing charity.
