Government to assist with funeral of San Sauveur landslide victims

Rescue workers digging to locate the victims of a landslide in San Sauveur.

(DNO) Government has stepped in to assist a San Sauveur family after a few of their loved ones lost their lives in a landslide late last month.

Harrison Stoute, 51, Jael Stoute, 5, and Flora Stoute,76, died when a mass of land swept their house away while inside on the morning of May 24.

Johnson Drigo, Parliamentary Representative for the San Sauveur area, has disclosed that government is lending a hand in the funeral for the three who had been pulled out of rubble, hours after the landslide had occurred.

“I can assure you that government is assisting with the funeral preparations and the funeral expenses,” Drigo stated.

He said government will provide temporary location for two others who were living with the deceased family.

Additionally, the Ministry of Community Development will be making a monthly allowance to Ignas Stoute, who escaped from the Stoute family home during the landslide.

The funeral service for the landslide victims will take place at San Sauveur Roman Catholic Church on Thursday afternoon.
