No encouraging information concerning Shanice Jemmott – Weekes

Shanice has been missing for 21 days now

Police say they have no encouraging information to date regarding the disappearance of 14-year old Shanice Jemmott.

The matter continues to be a major talking point over the airwaves on the island as family members and others concerned continue to stick up posters across the island in hopes of finding Jemmott.

Some have criticized the police saying they have not been doing enough in the search for the missing teenager but Claude Weekes, Public Relations Officer of the police department, said law enforcement officials are working with the pieces of information they have.

“We continue to look and work with the relevant authorities including the family, but we have nothing favorable to report just yet. We continue to investigate and we continue to work with the intelligence that we have gathered,” Weekes said.

Weekes wants the public to make an effort to bring forth any information they have in relation to Jemmott’s whereabouts and has called on the family of Jemmott to remain hopeful.

Jemmott disappeared 21 days ago and has not been seen since. Her uncle has offered a $10,000 reward for any information leading to her safe return.

Apparently some of you have information that could reunite this girl with her family. If she ran away maybe welfare needs to step in and make sure there wasn’t any abuse at home. If that’s not the case then if she ran off with an older man as readers claim be sure she wasn’t kidnapped and held against her will. Where is the police in these communities thats claiming the sightings. People stop speculating and help bring this child home. She could have been your child

So many people talking about Shanice doesn’t want to be found or she with her man etc…fact is she is a minor, a child, whatever the case she needs to be home with her parents…and there are two cases I know of, two young women gone missing for years now and no one knows what happened to them. One girl from Layou and the other I think from Grandfond. They did not want to be found too? People need to stop being so negative…Shanice is a child! Next week is her birthday I understand…shouldn’t she be with her family? What if it was your daughter? Now is not the time to be pointing fingers to say who is at fault, parents, police, community, Ministry of Education, school, principal nor teachers. None of that matters now. Getting her home does

Sigh. it is so sad the way these things happen. A 14 year old. so young, so tender. i pray that she is safe and that her kidnapper is found and put to justice. however, as sad as it may seem, we need to face reality. the people who are holding on to information about this teen’s whereabouts and do not want to inform the police, may God bless ya’ll souls. for once i think we should sacrifice our lives to save one so if you know that your know anything at all, PLEASE COME FORWARD. on the other hand, the search party needs to focus on neighboring islands as well. its been far too long that this child is missing and she cannot be found yet. Yes, she may still be on the island. she could even be a few steps away from her home but we do not realize that. i heard on the news that her uniform was found on the church grounds. i do not know what to believe because after all those days, her uniform just appears on a church step. sounds staged doesn’t it? however, my deepest condolences goes out to her family. i cannot even begin to imagine what suffering you are going through and i prayyyy! that your loved one is returned safely home to you once more. much love <3

I think in cases like that you have to really question the parents hard. In dominca alot of parents condone older guys messing with their daughters and when shit hits the fan they don’t know what to do. I would really question them to find out what they know, sort of apply preassure so that they can break. In little layou u mean to tell me NOOOO one saw the kid on the morning she disappeared? Com’n… Thats why when people say things about the US i just smh because trust me if that was here they would have clues or maybe found her bec they would start at home and canvas the neighborhood where she live. If it was to “pong a beef” or spread a rumor everyone would have something to say but now it’s something that important everyone staying mute, like seriously if someone has info don’t matter how small share it. The troubling thing is what if the little girl don’t want to be found and she ran away, we have to find out what was the cause. That is my 2 cents.

There are three options where this girl could be.

    1. They are hiding way,way up in the hills.(check for missing items at their homes.. Clothes, food, )

    2. Passed back door and enter another island, which more less would be Guadelope. (Easier and closer) ( check for personal items missing, check for financial transactions..like large sum of withdrawal..talk to people living close to the beaches. WoodfordHill, Calibishie, Ans de Mai. quick getaway ports.)

    3. Sad to say the other one, but dip ….

The police must go back to the families and look for things that are missing. A clue is left there.

Thinking of the forest covering this island Dominica is not so small..remember the young man who got lost a few months ago? As a mother I can’t even begin to imagine what her family is going through. Lord hear our prayers on behalf of Shanice and show yourself strong in this situation.. we know you are well able. I pray for Shanice’s safe return to her family. Father reveal, open eyes and ears to see and hear what ordnarily they may not be able to so that the authorities can be directed to Shanice. Touch the heart of whoever is holding her, and cause him to return this young child to her family. You are a present help in every situation and I pray that as the family waits they will lean on you. Be their strong tower and grant them grace everyday to trust you and wait upon you in this diffcult moment. Grant them their heart’s desire to have their child returned to them safely…in Jesus name we pray..Amen!

Well it seems that Shanice was captured in a ‘rapture.’ I cannot understand how a young teenager could simply disappear and not one person on the island knows anything? Dominica is so small, people pong bef whole day, they know everybody’s business but when it time for the real thing, to use the bef to find a missing child, they cannot do anything.

A teenager disappears on her way to school, there should have been a radius search set up. We are really joking in Dominica. I would really like to know what has the police been doing. If for simple crimes they cannot solve, it’s not a case of this magnitude they will solve. Are some of the police officers still taking their off days on a Sunday, still drinking rum and playing dominoes whilst crime is on the rise and a teenage girl has disappear in thin air?

To the family of Shanice, I really pray that closure is brought to this situation really soon.

I am unsure about DA, but, in the US most criminals or abductors live a few houses away from their victim. Have they searched the neighbor’s houses and the neighborhood on a whole? Good Lord, how can a child just vanish on the way to school and nobody notices a thing? Have they checked those little shacks people build in their garden sometimes—the ones way off in the bush? I believe the child is alive somewhere.. please pray. This is messed up. I have three children and I would lose my mind if that happened to me. Lord have Mercy. Magway sa.

Well i would hope by now that the law enforcement officers in dominica would already utilize INTERPOL, i would hope so, but dominica is small that child could never be on island still, who ever took that child, i beleive they smuggle out of the island, they should extend their investigations to st marteen or guadeloupe man, she has to be on one of the neighboring islands. sad sad sad.

I think that some type of alert should be put out so that shanice is kept in the media’s eyes. Its crazy to think that people are being kidnapped in Dominica. Also the government needs to take this case to an international level, have FBI and CIA agents on the island looking for this child. Someone somewhere knows something and they are not talking. The government should contribute toward information leading towards the reward of this child. The family should maybe ask people to contribute toward helping fund the reward. I know that resources are limited in Dominica but much can be done to bring awareness to the disappearance of this Child. THe family should request the radio station have 5 minutes of silence on the island so that everyone can pray and if not pray then think for a minute about this child. These are just some ideas that might help in the safe return of Shanice….

I think Dominica is too small for a person to disappear for 21 days. Someone would have seen something by now. I think the search should have crossed the waters two weeks ago. The police in neighboring islands should have been asking questions a long time ago. This is very sad indeed.

Why can’t the police department through the Prime Minister send out an SOS to the the other Islands of the OECS to help them out with their search and rescue dogs. If either the young lady or the young man are still alive and they are still on the Island the dogs will find them.

    • ROCKSY

Why through the office of the Prime Minister??

Everything is not down to the Prime Minister you know, the police can on their own request assistance from the Regional Security Agency (RSA), they do not need the approval of the Prime Minister nor his Office!!!

I think the police force must now consider having Canines in their mix…

I live in Marigot near the road, and I travel to Roseau daily, I will keep a look out for her. But have faith family, she will be home soon. Like the prodigal son she will come home, and hopes she gets the prodigal son treatment. Poor thing, we continue to pray for her. It is NOT EASY but God is love.
