PM Skerrit warns of more frequent and ferocious storms

Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has warned that the the effects of climate change will be here for a very long time and the Caribbean will see more frequent and ferocious storms in the future.

He was addressing the 43rd annual general meeting of the Saint Lucia Insurance Council in Saint Lucia last week.

The prime minister observed that although countries like Dominica and Saint Lucia contribute very little to greenhouse gases, they bear the brunt of the effects.

Dominica was ravaged by hurricane Maria last year.

Noting the impact on the country’s economy, Skerrit asserted that the response cannot be funded only from local resources. He said those who contribute most to climate change must help to pay the bill..

Skerrit also called on the region to be better prepared and to do what is possible “to lessen the impact of the various climatic events.”

Among such actions taken by Dominica, according to the prime minister, was the revision of the Island’s building codes and the implementation of measures to ensure adherence.

“We have sought to stipulate and promote the use of better quality building materials,” Skerrit stated. “We have examined our bridges and roads and determined that we need to improve the structures.”

He said despite the significant cost of such measures, Dominica does not have a choice.

“To do otherwise would result in a constant cycle of destruction and repair with no benefit to our people,” the prime minister explained.

Skerrit urged the Saint Lucia Insurance Council to be part of the solution to the serious challenges which insurance companies have to surmount if they are to play a pivotal role in the recovery process.

Because we can’t control hurricanes as yet we must be ready to lessen their effect on us by building better homes and planning better for them. For instance, all houses should be required to have built-on shutters to for windows and doors. Shutters should be part of the architecture.
We cannot continue with the same type of buildings that we have had in the past. It seems obvious as it would mean that we would have learned nothing from the maria experience

you a self does just run your mouth and repeat what you hear people saying on the international stage without doing research. if you had checked the yearly hurricane stats you would know that intensity of hurricanes come as a cycle after a heavy year like last year the following years are low intensity as seen this year then slowly go up and up till its high then it falls again. it took me 2 minutes on google to find that information and a so called doctor like you cannot see that for yourself? climate chang estill ha-sent been proven as a fact, its still a theory as far as scientists say, cause history shows that the earth goes threw regular heating and cooling cycles

Are you trying to turn Skerrit into an intellectual…..someone who is able to balance and talk professionally of a subject matter? Well, you are asking for too much. He is a failed politician and a failed Prime Minister. he must God. May the calm winds take him away to a safe place of decency ad education and forgiveness.

Skerrit Get lost…Go. You have failed us

I read what the Pm said re storms, but he did not describes all the storms that are dangerous and before us, therefore, I have attempted to conclude where he left off..
Skerrit says: “Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has warned that the effects of climate change will be here for a very long time and the Caribbean will see more frequent and ferocious storms in the future” We the people who suffer from these corrupt political storms say this: Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has warned that the effects of political climate Corruption/Bobol has been and will continue to be here for a very long time and our Domininca will see more deliberately planned frequent and ferocious political storms continue now and the future if we Dominicans do not get rid of this devasted danger that has affected ourselves for 18 years now. He further stated in our poverty that “To do otherwise would result in a constant cycle of destruction and repair with no benefit to our…

“PM Skerrit warns of more frequent and ferocious storms…” My dear Dominicans, you see how Skerrit is admitting and has caution us of the more Ferocious Bobol dirty dangerous Political storms we face ahead. We have just listened to the political weather forecast from the an immature weather forecaster but one who is an active creator and participant in these ferocious political corrupt storms we now face in our already devasted Domininca. Be safe y people, run away from this political storm when you see it coming. Please take no action and take no chances in attempting to gt too close to that dirty storm. Let it go away to the wilderness where it belongs. I think this failed Pm, should Go mind his Funky Political Business. Leave us alone…leave us alone. You are a failure

Roosevelt Skerrit is the worse and more ferocious storm Dominica has suffered from and I don’t believe we will have another bad and dangerous hurricane than Skerrit. I know we were flattened by Maria and the south was flattened by Erika in 2015, but the truth is, if we had a government that was concerned about Dominica, the world knows we would be much better off today. Skerrit got a whole lot of money from the world bank and other friendly governments as well as building materials and roof erection. The question is, what has Skerrit done to help Dominica? Since Maria some of the things we’ve seen are

    1. Hired a Barbadian to be his economic advisor.
2.. He paid Judas Iscariot to switch from UWP to now DLP, at a time when we have so many ministers and need money to help our farmers
    3. He got rid of Ross University. No damn lies or excuses and that he did because he knows he is in trouble and could not trust the presence of a US School with over 1000 Americans he saw as spies

Can somebody please tell me when over the millennia of history has the climate of the planet ever been constant and unchanging?

Channel one……You may want to inform yourself by reading reports from the UN Paris meeting on climate change. You may also want to read a report that came out yesterday on global worming from 91 scientists about disasters by 2030. Those reports are on the net. You may also want to access reports on climate activity for 2018 all over the world. In the USA right now there are two hurricanes one from the Pacific (west coast) and one from Gulf (east coast). That way you will be able to have an informed opinion.
My point of view is that global warming and climate change is real. And from now on there will be all kinds of disasters globally: hurricanes, floods, draughts, volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones and rising water levels; food security problems on land and sea, health problems, and drinking water problems. These problems will also affect all animals including fish. I am not even talking about human conflicts resulting from all these problems.
