The Laudat community in the Roseau Valley finally received some relief on Tuesday after being cut off from the rest of Dominica as a result of Tropical Storm Erika.
A number of landslides blocked the roads, preventing villagers from leaving the area.
On Tuesday, villagers gathered at the Laudat Health Centre where dried goods including, milk, rice, sugar, canned foods, crackers, bottled drinks and water were distributed to them.
The relief items were taken to the village on a Venezuelan helicopter.
One villager told Dominica News Online (DNO) that the experience has been a difficult one.
“It has been rough for the past couple of days but I give God thanks for life and strength,” he stated. “It could have been worst.”
“We in the Roseau Valley are well known in having rich soil, growing our own vegetables but a number of our crops have been destroyed,” he indicated. “My new vegetable bed is gone but I still give God thanks,” he said.
