The body of a woman, who was washed away at Glassé near Boetica around 1:30 pm on Monday, has been found, according to reports reaching DNO.
At the same time, another woman who was being treated at the La Plaine Health Center, for injuries received during the incident, has been transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).
The dead woman has been identified as Wendy Thomas of Fond Cole.
According to an official police report by police PRO, Acting Inspector, Pellam Jno Baptiste, a group of eight was at Glassé Point when a number of individuals were swept away by waves. All but Thomas made it back to shore.
Her body was fished from the sea about 200 feet away from shore by the Marine Unit. She was officially pronounced dead at the PMH by a medical doctor. A coroner’s inquest will be convened.
April Philogene, also of Fond Cole who sustained injuries during the incident, was treated at the La Plaine Health Center and referred to the Accident and Emergency Department of the PMH where she was examined, treated and discharged, Jno Baptiste stated.
DNO was told that Philogene is Thomas’ sister.
RIP Wendy…I wonder if the water was choppy due the tropical storm?
R.I.P aunt Wendy we are going to miss you very much ?????????????????????????????? you are dead but will never be forgoten by all of us from bwa bwa team
very sad news rip wendy the lord knows why he called you .Right now he has made her his angel ,hearts out to the family especialy her daughter so sad .
glassie is a place they should bann people from bathing there RIP Wendy
This is extremely sad news. If the area is not safe for bathing/swimming, a conspicuous warning sign should be posted, not only on land but in the water: WARNING! DANGEROUS! DO NOT BATHE/SWIM BEYOND THIS POINT!” Inform them to be cautious in rainy and stormy weather.
Member of Parliament for Boetica riding, please take note in order to save lives of your constituents and visitors. This is highly important. Once and for all, the spirit of Wendy Thomas may be speaking to you from beyond. Take immediate action!
My heartfelt sympathy to her family and others who knew her. Take heart
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace. Amen!
Don’t know anything about the attraction sites. But the cry of the people is adequate to start posting signs for future safety. So sorry about the death of the young woman. My sympathy to the family.
With the passage of a Tropical Wave, Saturday/Sunday, holiday makers should be a little more careful with their decision making. That being said, Glasse is a great site. Couldn’t the Tourism Ministry and Ministry of Fisheries explore finding some kind of protective netting as a second line of protection>>>>
You will always be remembered & missed Wendy . At least u had ur last adventure but unfortunately this one was Far too dangerous . I pray for your family & may the Lord keep an eye over your daughter <3
This is preventable. Will the authorities stop fooling around and do something about it.A Also the sea on the entire east coast poses dangers like this to visitors and citizens alike in Castle Bruce,Grand Bay,Rosalie etc.
Thousands of dollars can be spent on a fantasy hotel in possie but we cannot find spare change to place at least one real ambulance in every parish ??????
What does a hotel have to do with Ambulance? that two different Ministries… health and tourism. That’s like saying thousands of dollars are spent on roads but more coast guard boats are needed. Two totally different things. furthermore the roads in Dominica have always been narrow so you need suitable vehicles (narrow ambulances). jsut think once in a while.
What ambulance we have bro? That is no more than a glorified meat wagon we have there. We the roads we have we should have well trained first responders with especially equipped motor bikes that can deliver initial trauma response on the spot much quicker, while waiting for an ambulance to arrive to take the victim to he hospital. I’m convinced more lives would be saved like that.
They really need to put signs indicating Danger and caution at spots like these. It will help!!.
This is really sad. Our hearts are heavy and you will be missed by us. Rest in eternal peace Wendy. You were our bright star that will keep on shining.
Tanty, Ira and the rest of the family, may you find comfort in God in this time of mourning. It’s hard to understand why but God makes no mistakes. She may be gone but will NEVER be forgotten. She will live on in our hearts.
Love you Wendy to pieces. You were a true friend and it was an absolute pleasure to have known you. No one will ever be able to replace you.
Tear drops are falling
Thanks Nadia… <3
This is not and i repeat NOT!!! a safe place to bathe this place have taken so many innocent lives please do not bathe there. This is a sad sad situation rest in peace Wendy Class of 92 WHS. You will be missed sigh
This is sad. Bye Wendy you were very close to our family, my aunt will miss you.
The government do not spend money on warning signs to safeguard the citizens of Dominica. Have money for villas, unoccupied hotels and such.
If you have nothing constructive to say be quiet. Your obsession with the government is pathetic at best.
So, when they fish ah from de sea she wasn’t dead yet? Is at de PMH they say she dead?
A medical professional must official confirm … pronounce … one dead. C’est tout!
So is they alone know wen som one ded?
Sadly, when she was found, she had already passed on, being in the water for a while. RIP.
This is not the first time a thing like that happened at this place. It is an attraction but also dangerous and a sign should be put up there warning visitors to be cautious and telling them they they use it at their own risk.
For those of us who keep hate and unforgiveness in our hearts and keep walking around with around our necks it’s high time to release and let go and let God take control. I saw Wendy at the airport on Sunday morning to find out that would be the last time. Lord Your Will Be Done.
OMG !!,This is…..oh so sad..R I P Wendy. My prayers with the family…. Her little daughter.. God be with you all during this difficult time.
sooooooo sad R.I.P
Very sad indeed. But i just find people here are very complaisant when comes to danger. You have probably lived here all your life you should know and heed to caution the danger areas. That said i’ll add i am a 58 year old and never been to glasse or the oiling lake, because those are dangerous places.Condolences to all family and friends.
one day the government or the people will take it upon themselves to warn people of the dangers of some of our most prized possessions….. may your soul rest in perfect peace… you did love the water too baby girl… rest in peace
stop blaming the dead

some of us too insensitive and heartless

I went to school with a Wendy Thomas from Fond Cole and I am wondering if that is the same person? We went to Wesley High School, think she worked Port Security. My heart aches

Gone to soon girlfriend, may your soul rest in peace
Where are the stretchers for use in the ambulance? You mean an injured person has to move from a wheelchair and be helped into the ambulance.
Heaven help us in this country!!!
Exactly, no gloves , not to mention only one person in the picture looks like ambulance staff.(and he himself dont even have on gloves)
It’s really sad to see u go …rest in peace
Aftermath of a tropical wave on the Atlantic side of the island, yet persons feel compelled to brave the waves in that particular area. Should there not be some sort of precautionary warningaga inst access to the site. My condolences
We are saddened by a great loss of our loving family member. Kind hearted, always giving and full of joy and laughter. May wendys body rest in peace and may her light continue to shine upon us all. She was a bacon of light to everyone and our family she will be greatly missed. Maureen, Thomas, Wayne family
have known those areas as a child signs should be put up informing people of the danger. Is there a ministry or are there persons responsible for putting up those signs . We are into tourism and one of the areas we have to look into is safety
R.I.P Wendy and to your family and friends hold strong
Oh boy this is very sad news. My sympathy goes out to family and friends having to hear such shocking news.
Oh oh this is sad.. I hope the find her..
Glassy again! When are we going to say enough and stop putting ourselves in danger by going to these places knowing full well there is a certain degree of unpredictability there. Its like taking a ride on a 50 year old Cable Tram with the original equipment knowing full well there may be problems ahead. However I am praying for the lady and hoping for the best.
Always Assertive!
Very sad News, on a Day when all are enjoying themselves. Let pray for the family and the victim..
they never learn
Ikr. …them places keep taking lives but D cans still going there….smh…I’ve seen this place well enough non pictures papa
Ahhhhh sorry forvthe family
So many incidents at glasse, yet no restrictions from going to that area and no signage to say the least. It’s dangerous. That should be made known! Smh
